Getting CTD recently more often

Recommended Posts

For those having any CTD issue/s try the following…

Run the following commands as an administrator

Go through each of the following steps one at a time. Copy each line, one at a time , paste it into the Dos window (crtl + V) and press return

and it will then run. Wait until each runs and finishes before you move on to the next one.

When you are completely finished, Restart your computer and then try to see in MS2020 will start and run properly

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /checkhealth

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /scanhealth

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth

sfc /scannow

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

RESTART your computer as the last step. Then go for a test flight.

If that does not resolve the CTD issue/s then follow…

My friend is recently getting CTDs due to ntdll.dll and funnily enough I also got one today for the same module - It's pretty annoying as it's not always known what is actually causing them in the first place.

Me too, ntdll.dll errors out of the blue pretty much every flight. Clean install on Win 11. Just reinstalling Win 10 and starting over.

Unable to repair ntdll.dll file with sfc /scannow and the Dism.exe route.

Good to hear it's not just me.

Probably not related however, Windows forcefully (without me wanting to) installed new Nvidia drivers (512.15) I am guessing for security reasons. It happened to two machines and both on the same day, today 20th of August.

EDIT: I was on older drivers, pre 512.15 on both machines!

Actually just CTD´d myself half an hour ago. First one in ages. In the HJet during cruise (which is a first to be honest). Faulty module: FlightSimulator.exe.

You can run the Command Prompt as administrator and run the command below to reinstall the .dll file.

First unload the .dll file:

regsvr32.exe /u ntdll.dll

Then reinstall the .dll file:

regsvr32.exe ntdll.dll

Wow! I've just tried to repeat my last night's flight, the one which CTD-ed. Guess what - another CTD! This time later, closer to the destination airport (on descent the sim froze for a few seconds and quit).
One strange thing (might be unrelated though) I noticed on this flight, was my hardware radio's transponder code vanishing for a short moment every few minutes. I've never seen it before, to be honest.
Flight: EDDF-EGCC with Fenix A320 and AIG traffic. No GSX installed (refrained from buying for now). MSFS Premium Deluxe on Windows 10. I have been flying like this for 3 months without crashes.

And all this is happening at the weekend, just when I have some spare time to fly... 😐

No CTD ever until about 2 weeks ago, but they have now become common.

Not always a full CTD sometimes a random frozen game window stays open, and sometimes it crashes all the way to the desktop.

  • Occasionally the CTD seem to be triggered  by using my Logitech switch gear, for example putting gear up, but that is rare.
  • More commonly it is triggered by panning around in cockpit view, this occurs both with mouse view and TrackIR.  It seems more likely to occur if panning rapidly.
  • Sometimes I an not doing anything and it just randomly crashes without notice

It was fine until a couple of weeks back and I made no changes to my game at that time - I suspect server issues.

My MSFS session was freezing up but not crashing, though I could still hear the sound, ever since the latest beta update.  Once I went into Task Manager to close it, it would unfreeze.  I couldn't figure out what triggered it, but then discovered that it happened whenever I opened a new Microsoft Edge tab.  I usually use Google Chrome, but Edge defaults when I open a .pdf for viewing, so I just leave the window up during my flights.  As soon as I open a new tab, boom...it freezes.  As soon as I enter Task Manager, it unfreezes.  I updated Edge, but I can repeat it every time.  Can anyone else confirm if this happens to them?  This is on Windows 11...I had no problems prior to the latest update and no problems with Chrome.

This happens to me too, it started like several weeks ago. With the difference that not every new tab freezes MSFS. I've noticed that the issue is with websites that use hardware acceleration (Youtube, pdf reader etc.). I also don't have this issue when opening the tab on second screen.

Anyway, yesterday I've also started getting CTDs all of a sudden, as described here and on the official forums. To me it seems unrelated to the temporary freeze caused by Edge.

Had the same issue with ntdll.dll last two days.

Could not fly more than 40 minutes.

Then I rollback to the previous version of NVidea driver (from 516.94 to 516.59) - now all works well.

UPDATED

OOPS, man.... It's here again.
