Sad Day

Recommended Posts

A couple of you who might read this already know this

Our son, Eric, has been missing for about three years now.  We just stopped hearing from him.  He lived in Flagstaff, Arizona.  He used to call us once month and we got Mother's Day and Father's Day and birthday cards and he used to come home for Christmas now and then.  We reported him missing with the Flagstaff Police Department.

We got a call from the Flagstaff Police Department.  They think they have found him.  They found his Jeep with a lot of his stuff in it in a remote part of the Kaibab National Forest.  Nearby they found some skeletal remains.  The detective said there was no evidence of foul play.  If whatever happened was three years ago he would have been 51 years old.  We don't know what his state of health was.

We don't know who actually found him and the car or what the circumstances were.  Apparently, the Jeep, which was 50 yards off a dirt road and hidden by trees, had been spotted by a local rancher who was hunting and reported it to Flagstaff PD.

The detective said they are notifying the Roswell PD to take cheek swabs from Betty and I for DNA for a positive identification.  They are also going to take swabs from his sister who lives near Denver.

They came this morning and took more swabs.  I don't know why.  But it was another reminder.  We do want closure.

We have been prepared for something like this for a long time so it wasn't a shock.  He liked to find remote campsites away from people.  He also liked to fish down in the Grand Canyon.  We figured something might have happened to him on one of his trips and it would take a long time to find him.

We don't know much more than that.  He belongings and remains will be released after a positive identification has been made.  His sister will be taking care of all that for us.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Sorry to hear this.  I am not sure how I would handle this if it were my daughter.  Hang in there and keep as busy and positive as you can.

Very sorry to hear this, and you have my condolences. Having lost my mum just last week, I'm presently only too aware how you must be feeling right about now, but if you keep your loved ones in your heart, they do stay with you.

I am so sorry for you and your wife, Noel. I can't imagine how hard it must be losing a child. My best friend died last year from an accidental overdose (he had to handle narcotics in his job). I never forget the pain that his 80-year old mother expressed when we talked about it.

My sincerest condolences, I hope you will find closure.

Condolences and best wishes going forward from me as well Noel. Despite the hint of the title I was not quite prepared for the gravity. I can't imagine the pain of losing a child and as a father of two boys aged 5 and 7 the thought of it can, and sometimes do, make me loose sleep at night.

Really hope you find closure.

Noel, I can't imagine what an emotional blender that kind of news must be.  May his memory be a blessing.
