Xplane 12 Released

Recommended Posts

It won't let me download it due to fact I only have a GTX Titan 6 GB Vram say's it doesn't support Vulcan which I find odd as it works with XP 11 vulcan.

Has anyone else spotted the UFO which I guess is an Easter egg? It was following me near Portland. I made a video recording.

The "UFO" which appears to be moving was derived from the underlying Google world images. It's not a Laminar trick. KBOO 90.7 on the FM dial feature daily interviews with the object's strange pilots, who seem to be ranting about artistic and political shortcomings. It's hard to understand exactly what the pilots are saying.

It also appeared on Chewwy's stream near LOWW, also when flying the Citation X.

Tried to install the demo but it hung or stalled. Now I can get it to resume and I can even delete the X-Plane folder. How do you uninstall it so you can start again? Any ideas?

I had same problem last night. I had to go to task monitor and kill the two Xplane programs in order to delete the X-plane folder. After I deleted it, I redownloaded the program and then it installed fine.

A CMD command from windows search will allow using DOS commands to delete stubborn folders. But you will start deleting just about everything from your drive if you enter the same DEL *.* command from the wrong 'directory'. So, extreme caution.

I am not.  It may be due to me running at 1440p.

I am running at 1440p and am seeing FPS up to 120fps outside of cities with settings maxed apart from render distance one notch down.  I am getting a steady 30-40fps over complex cities which is what I get with MSFS.

I am very pleased at the render distance of Trees and autogen way off in the distance.

How do you feel about the lighting? I can't quite judge whether it has or hasn't changed much. In some shots it definitely looks better and in others the same as XP11.

Also have you noticed any change in ground textures?

Really?  The lighting looks fantastic to me, and it is so nice to have reduced visibility!

I think I see the improvement most in unclouded but hazy skies, and reflections on aircraft exteriors, where it really is a vast improvement over 11.

I don’t see much difference in cockpits and terrain lighting and occlusion, but that may be limitations in the terrain engine and not the lighting. I guess it just needs some tweaking and if they can get it consistent it’ll be pretty competitive.

Either that or I just need my aging eyes tested.

I am anxious to buy X-plane 12 via Steam. surely, I am not the only one. Every day I check the Steam store without any result. Laminar must realise that many of their customers are awaiting the Seam release.

I might be wrong but I don’t think Steam hosts ‘early access’ products.

I think you’ll have to wait until it comes out of this early access period before it appears on Steam.

Early Access (Steamworks Documentation) (steamgames.com)

Steam Early Access enables you to sell your game on Steam while it is still being developed, and provide context to customers that a product should be considered "unfinished."

It does seem to be taking a while. I'm sure if Laminar could be bothered, they could take the trouble to find out the status and expected deployment.

Steam even has an early access game listing if anyone wants to check it out.(steampowered.com) I've already bought games that were still in alpha when they were released there.

Yup. It's taking a while. According to Steamworks documentation, the review process typically takes 3-5 business days. This means the deadline would be until today. I'd be worried if it wasn't released there by tomorrow.

Now one thing I wonder is why didn't LR create a XP12 page on Steam in advance? I believe that if they had done that, the release would have been much faster, perhaps even simultaneously with the website version.
