XP12: the good, the bad, the ugly

So XP12 has gone from being a "beta" to being an "early-access beta" to a "pre-release beta" to an "early-access pre-release beta." In other words, you can't believe what you're seeing either.

It's all the same thing: a label of deniability such that they can make money on a product that still has enough bugs that someone could probably otherwise take the authors to court for false advertising and win. 100% legalized cash grab. That or they are fully confident in the product.

Either way, I'm hooked. Addicted. I begged LR to take my money a year ago. I can't believe what I'm seeing either. 12 exceeds expectations.

Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...

Considering you have no interest in XP12 at all, perhaps you could explain why you are posting here?

1. Roads and coastlines/shorelines look bad with very sharp angles. No curves, and this is not realistic at all. Everything is acute angles.

This one as I mentioned previous as stated by Austin in a interview, is a performance issue, Every nice round corner means more triangles every new triangle is a performance hit, They need to work out what the costs are,  I would far rather have 30FPS than round corners on my roads.

Well, they need to fix it. It’s not like doing proper roads is somehow amazingly groundbreaking. I see no reason why XP can’t do 30 fps+ and proper roads.

GPUs these days are orders of magnitude faster then when XP11 was released and can handle millions of “triangles” without breaking a sweat.

If LR cannot do 30 fps with roads that don’t look they are from 2006… I don’t know what to say.

Meshes definition could be done on a Nintendo 64. That how coarse they are. It is early access but let's at least be honest

Well maybe you need to learn how to programme once you know how you will know why, It isnt just like slapping some paint on a stick. Your presuming a lot. Yes its possible but a lot of work and a lot of testing. That is why its in the works, But I guess you like moist never watched any interview videos. At the moment its bug finding to get rid of all the killer bugs, Crashes etc and the purple on some video cards. Its pretty stable otherwise, Than it will be bit by bit till all the big bugs are squashed, than its performance improvements I assume roads will come than. Thats how it works.

Be rather hard, its a Beta as the said, and pre release, also the delivered everything they promised for the pre release. Im sure a court case would provide them with more publicity.

Thanks for telling me how it works. Maybe it’s not me that needs to “learn programming” but LR.

XP apologists are the worst. I’m out of this thread.

Some one needs to stand up for them. Every one demands but have no concern as to how hard it is. why so few xplane people here.

everything has a good bad and the uglee.

XP has always been a love hate sim.

But there is no better civil sim that can give you the pleasures of simulating the sexy helis.

I haven't touched XP11 in many months , tried MSFS twice using the game pass , did I like it ? yes visually  , visually XP is not even close that is if you compare only the visuals.

I am sure one's using the passenger aircraft's like the Boeing's / Airbuses would not be to concerned if a few bldgs are not correct , no one can see  how it is from 35k AGL  And to my experience at least 60-70% are using mostly those kinda aircrafts.  to see the world from 35k just barren Ortho imagery is enough.

Frankly it's you that only see monsters, there's several x-plane people here.

This thread is to point out the positives and negatives of the current betas. Nothing more. Nobody is taking Laminar to court over the sharp roads.
Laminar has said the global scenery will get an update before the beta run ends.
Then in 12.1 or so we might get 3D grass.

From the WED developer:

Quote

the global scenery shipping with the initial betas is intentionally not yet having a number of things firmly planned for X-Plane 12 in it.

Also this other quote from one of the main XP12 developers, Sidney Just

Quote

Some people are new to X-Plane, not everyone is a computer expert. Yes, a lot of questions have been asked again, but that doesn't mean everyone has to be treated like they are some gosh darn word not allowed. I also don't quite like the "well it's a beta so shut up" argument, that's not very useful to beta testing either. If everyone just shut up and didn't say anything during a beta, none of the bugs would be fixed and we might as well rename it 12.00r1 and move on. So I would say a lot of the old timers could be a lot nicer to newcomers instead of seeing comments like "I want to do X" and then going "Omfg how stupid can you be, no one does X, how dumb are you?!". Y'all don't remember a time when you were new to something, or is everyone born an expert these days?

So. Fly the Boeing then. An airliner with a stick always to me was like a semi-tractor with an automatic transmission. I tend to the old ways.

It was more about the hype that was build up around it. Featured in preview videos etc. There are guys from Flight Factor working for LR now. And then they put a default Boeing FMC in an Airbus? Remember, LR is known for its details. Then just don't release it at all and wait till it's done.

Stand up for them? This isn’t a school playground.
So few xplane people? What does that even mean? Waffle…
