Looking for attractive GA homebases

Recommended Posts

My favorite airport is EDMV, located in Germany along the Danube in a town called Vilshofen. It's in a beautiful old world town with a castle on the hill and a modern bridge by the airport. The approach is along the river and a little challenging but very scenic. It's close to the Alps and just the right size.

An improved version can be found at https://flightsim.to/file/19937/edmv-vilshofen-airport-germany

A real-life view of a DA 62 flying circuits around the airport and the area can be found at

Good grief! I bet they wish they could adjust the slider for turbulence. It's just totally unrealistic. (sarcasm, of course)

I'd like to intensify my GA-flying using NeoFly and aircraft like the C172 and the X-Cub. I'd like to do flights up to roughly one hour flight time.

I am looking for some attractive homebases to start from.

These are my desired criteria, with decreasing importance:

1) A region with an appealing, varied landscape (mountains, coastlines, spectacular landscape formations, interesting cities ...)

2) A nice addon scenery for the homebase airport, freeware or payware

3) Some nice addon airports in the vicinity as possible destinations, mostly freeware

4) Enhanced default scenery in the surroundings (world updates etc.)

5) All or most mission types of NeoFly should be realistic options

I have been flying from KORS lately but like to see something else now.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

I’m a real life pilot and had my plane based at KFIT in Massachusetts. New England is exactly what you’re describing.

Mountains, coastlines, cities, rivers, lakes, and class B, C, and D airspace all around.

Lots of scenery add ons.

One of my favorites is CYCD Nanaimo (freeware) on Vancouver Island. Water, mountains, big city Vancouver all very close. I hope it will be compatible withe the upcoming WU Canada.

Good question. Anything that makes you think it’s not, or…? It’s got WU10 and everything before that.

I made this collection of Bookmarks for MSFS hand crafted airports for use in Google Earth.. could be useful..
