Worth it to upgrade to a RTX 4090 for MSFS?

Recommended Posts

I currently have the RTX 3090 FE but am thinking whether or not if I should get the RTX 4090 card. I run the sim in 4K ultra settings and would love to be able to get better performance if the 4090 will make a noticeable difference.

Yeah why not burn more cash for another 5% extra fps.

Personally I have the same config as you have the exeption of the 1200W power supply and the graphic card I just went from a 2080 to a 4090 oc. I clearly saw the difference all in ultra 4k and fps locked at 40 stable.

In my opinion it is not worth it, to go from a 3090 to a 4090. If you wanted more performance wait to upgrade to DLSS3 under dx12 when it will be fully operational.

Another thing before buying a 4090 ensure you that your case is large enough.  😉

3090 FE and 4090 FE looks to be about the same size. Also DLSS 3.0 is only supported on 40xx cards.

I think this is not needed - IMO !

Waste of money and resources - you are just fine and still good to go with this kind of graphic card.

cheers 😉

For me in VR it is perfect, settings maxed out beside (terrain / object at 100). No downscaling, FPS went from 30 to 50 at a comparably dense location (EDFM) with 'epic clouds' presets on a reverb2. Went from 3090

Well it's a bit more then 5%.
The 4090 MSI is doing more then 5 fps extra.

The 4090 does it all  with less powerdraw and lower temps due to 4nm compared to the 3090.

It depends on your take on the money/sense equation.

From a 3090?

Flat screen 4k? No.

Triple Monitor 2k? Maybe

Triple Monitor 1080p? No

Triple Monitor 4k? Yes

High End VR? Yes

VR Quest, Vive2? Maybe

If you need to render more than 10 million pixels. It’s got value.

Anything under that your 3090 is more or less already hitting the MSFS mainthread speed limit .

Source: I’ve been messing around and testing the 4090 for two days.

I have a 3090 with a 9900k. Will for sure update the 9900k in the first half of 2023 before I do anything with the 3090.

From what I have seen I’ve no intention of dropping nearly $3,000 on a 4090

I would upgrade my CPU first. I am actually considering moving to AMD and keeping my 3090.

I run mainly Ultra settings with a couple turned down 1 notch and can easily maintain 50fps (I run a custom 50Hz refresh rate on my 4K TV) At this point in time I prefer DX11 & TAA as it just yields a better picture. The whole DLSS thing just doesn’t do it for me right now. I’ve found with the Nvidia GRD released this week the sim is the smoothest it’s been in a long time in both DX11 & DX12

Single 4K screen gaining 4fps in the Cessna with a 4090, man I’d be upset to see that lol

Try that in the Fenix at London Heathrow with live traffic and see where a 4090 will get you. I’m thinking maybe mid 50’s if your lucky.

You want to upgrade everytime nvidia releases a new card? I would jump this generation and consider buying the 50XX series in two years at least and only if it's really a game changer. I have a ZODAC 3090 and the only reason why I would like to change it is that it really loud, otherwise it's a good card.
