Worth it to upgrade to a RTX 4090 for MSFS?

For me, I'll take the double fps and deal with the artifacts, which really are mostly a problem during fast camera panning

Do you use trackIR?

Interesting, I wonder how it is using TrackIR as that pans the camera really fast, and if you have minimal distortion or stuttering you’d notice it. I suppose I’ll find out soon enough.

You’d probably get some distortion. Your new rig is on the way?

Yeah just delayed due to motherboard stock issues

@Cpt_Piett Are you in the States? If so, how did you manage to get this GPU? I am still trying daily and it's been so frustrating.

I must have been lucky. I ordered it as soon as it was available from a German vendor. I'm in Europe.

That is crazy.

Initially I ordered the TUF OC edition, then decided to cancel that and go the Strix. I collected it, took it home, had immediate buyers remorse spending so much over the base model cards. Was fortunate enough to get the TUF regular edition for MSRP, so I took the Strix back and saved myself $850AU in doing so.

This is the challenge... it's hard to imagine that a $2000-$3000 GPU is impossible to get.

Yah, it stinks. It's unfortunate, but this is the game they are playing (intentional low inventory, prioritizing card batches to scalpers, etc...).

Nvidia was fined for lying about how many cards they sold to "crypto-miners" in their accounting, and now they are under investigation by multiple regulators for price manipulation using inventory controls, but it's unlikely anything will be done, especially if AMD has a large inventory. What they aren't telling you, is a huge number of "crypto-miners" are actually scalpers and weren't mining at all, because it's impossible to verify these small companies are actually mining.

If AMD shorts everyone on inventory intentionally and keeps production low, we may see some regulatory intervention, but it's still doubtful.

Hey Ian,

Track IR is fine, minimal artifacting with frame regeneration (in the Fenix anyway) . The main issue is getting the frame pacing sorted as frame capping using the Nvidia control panel doesn`t work as it used to (it seems to sync the mainthread to the frame rate) as apposed to having a lower main thread frametime as I used to in SU10.

I think I have found a possible solution using RTSS however it does introduce some latency.

I have g-sync for that 😄

thanks for the update though! My system still sitting wrapped up at moment

I‘m toying with the idea of getting a 4090. Does it matter which model/brand or are they all more or less the same? I don‘t care about fancy lights or design. Any recommendations?

No noteworthy differences I think… just get the cheapest one you can get your hands on.
