Poor Performance with NVIDIA 4090

FYI: The computer guru who put together my computer suggested getting the following cable for my 4090 to protect against melting: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B8N3LDRV?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details. He got the same cable for his own 4090.

My computer is now two weeks old, and MSFS is really spectacular with DLSS and DX12

Do you lock to 30fps or run at 24hz? 👀👀👀😬

Frankly, I don't have a lot of knowledge about locking frame rates, etc.  I finally got DLSS3 and Dx12 working today, and I am learning as I go along.  Mike Gutierrez.

Haha I knew that from your comment. Had to look up facetious though 🙂

Thanks for sharing. As I said earlier I decided to order a ATX3.0 PSU so that I'm not dependant on the adapter. It really adds to the total cost, but I'd rather do it this way than having the adapter and connector at the GPU end melt.

If I ever get a card, I will do the same.

That should be fine as it's the nVidia adapter that is the problem.

Hardware Unboxed have jumped on the melting bandwagon too. Good times for tech youtubers.

I am one of the people with the problem. Mine was starting to melt one of the side pins, but the GPU was good (externally).

I still doubt it is just the adapter. No tests has been made with other cables. In fact there are 14 (and counting) people with the issue. All with the Nvidia Adapter, but that doesn't mean it cannot be produced with a third party one. We have to see. What I am going to do is refund it, as I want to be sure that the problem is solved. Then I will go for it again (if the prices don't rise more than the crazy they were).

3090 people were looking their connectors and in some of them has seen some kind of degradation (by heat?). But it is seems clear to me that join 4 adapters into a single one, is like entereing from a 6 lines highway into a single one road. For sure a traffic jam.

Who can garantee that all those people that don't have the issue right now, won't have it in 1 year? not a week in my computer and I found this. there are people with just a couple of hours. Not good.

That's a good way to put it... It's literally 12 lanes down to 6 on the power and 16 lanes down to 6 on the ground with the merge being the weak point... trying to do the splicing of large current carrying cables in that tiny 12 pin connector.

Yeah... and perhaps the idea of the new connector (and adapter) was to ease cable management somehow. Only it has the opposite effect, as one now has to be super-extra-careful not to bend the adapter.

I always thought it was 150 watt per 8 pins PCI-e connector.

How can this connector be 600 watt with only 2 x 8 pins PCI-e connectors connected on the PSU?

I would expect it to be 300 watt max.
