Absolutely and this is why the 10 year projected development period. My sense all along has been they are giving themselves 10yr to get the platform to an exceedingly high level of development in all areas: weather, cloud depiction, scenery, SDK etc. I'm guessing they've built-in capacity to improve as hardware improves and as satellite imagery improves w/o a major re-write. Then, as it has matured they can collect subscription fees to keep it alive as an income stream with no need to do another version. I'd happilly cough up $120/year to continue using the platform, although at the current rate of inflation it may well be $500/year! October 18, 20223 yr The '10 year' period that is being quoted again in this thread, is often repeated, and was mentioned as throw away words during launch, but Jorg has said since then that this statement was only a rough concept to demonstrate commitment. He basically replaced those words by saying the sim will have ongoing development and enhancement as long as people are using it and it is balancing the books - no time period. Could be 15 years, could be 20 or more. Personally, I think they will 'refresh' the title occasionally, like XPlane, where you basically pay for 90% of the same sim again (XP11 to XP12) but with a few standout enhancements. The only other way to raise the desired capital for further development is by strong sales through the marketplace, or by monthly subscription like others have suggested. MS / Asobo probably don't know how it will go themselves yet, and it will be decided by people at the top of Microsoft at the time (may not be Jorg by then), but these are some of the options. October 18, 20223 yr Guys, don't give MS any ideas about a subscription model. The sim doesn't need it. The CEO of MS once mentioned MSFS in the same breath that did for Minecraft with respect to microtransaction purchases. While I'm pretty sure MSFS is not pulling in as much as Minecraft, you can bet your bottom dollar that it is moving the needle well enough for them to be happy. The marketplace was a home run for them and it is exactly why we're being enticed constantly with all this free content. More active users results in more marketplace purchases and so on. Layoffs will come and go but there is no need to panic. 5800X3D. 32 GB RAM. 1TB SATA SSD. 3TB HDD. RX 9070XT.
October 18, 20223 yr I tend to believe Microsoft part in MSFS is pretty much the infrastructure and PR. All the reset is on Asobo and the other vendors. MSFS2020, 24, Fenix A320, Ryzen 9 9950X3D, ASUS TUF RTX 5090 ,G.SKILL 64GB 6000MHz CL28

October 18, 20223 yr are u joking right now? 1000 people out of 220k and you think its gonna impact MSFS? 1000 alone could come from buyouts/early retirements. Why are we even talking about this seriously? 7900x3d , 64gb 6200mhz 30CL Ram, RTX 3080

Doesn't look as good as online and there's no live weather, but then again there's the Google Maps mod so as long as that's around you can still stream scenery from there. Even so in the above scenario, without access to the scenery database, MSFS2020 would be quickly edged-out by competitors XPlane or Prepar3D. Prepar3D is really a much better simulator platform in terms of 3rd party add-on evolution. Why would anyone indulge MFS2020 without it's scenery?

No offense and to each their own, but I'm not gonna get into this as it would probably go nowhere given your recent posting history in several MSFS threads.
