Installing the SP1 update is highly recommended as it improves the performance of FSX on your PC. The performance benefits vary from system to system, but generally those who have installed this update have seen an improvement of 20- 40% in FPS. A few have reported less, and a few have even experienced more dramatic increases.Issues with the SP1 update:Of course SP1 itself has introduced some not so desirable problems, with the main ones listed here:1. Some are experiencing more blurries than with RTM FSX.2. There is the "out of memory" error affecting some users.3. There is a new bug in the 2D view system. Hitting the "W" key to toggle off the panel no longer gives you an unobstructed view when looking in all directions (as we were able to do before). Now the virtual cockpit textures unfortunately block the view of the outside scenery.ACES is looking into fixing all of these issues, and hopefully this will come in the form of a patch to be released in the future. You can download SP1 from here:http://www.fsinsider.com/downloads/Pages/default.aspx

>Question 1 - How do I determine if I need SP1? I bought FSX>quite a while ago.FSX has not be re-released after SP1, so everyone who wants SP1 needs to download it, no matter when you've bought FSX.

>FSX has not be re-released after SP1, so everyone who wants>SP1 needs to download it, no matter when you've bought FSX. Exactly. And I would also like to emphasize as an answer to the OP's Question 1 (How do I determine if I need SP1) that the consensus is that it is a recommended update for all users, no mater how high end your system is.
