Uninstall everything in Content Manager that you will not use within a few days after the update. Much like you would manage with the Addons Linker. It is easy in Content Manager to reinstall aircraft and/or regions in mere minutes after similarily managing contents brought in by the Anniversary Update. Case in point: For the next three to four months all of my planned flights are here in the USA. So I have no other world regions installed. Recently I did some flying in the UK. Took less than three minutes (at my MBPS speed) to load the appropriate World Update. And even quicker to then uninstall it after those flights. Another step I have taken is with freeware .zip and .7z files. In the past I have kept those in one location and positioned the extracted separate addons in an organized manner with the Addons Linker. Lightening struck me one day and caused me to reflect. Why am I retaining the .zip/7z files when the extracted versions are sitting there at the ready in my local tree of folders for Addons Linker? That when freeware sites like TO are so easy to revisit when needed? I've cut my MSFS SSD space use by over 33%. That leaves plenty of available space for the Anniversay Update and when installed I can manage that content "on the fly" according to my flights schedule. From a Swiss cheese memory, it goes something like this: Plug in & format the new SSD [assuming you have a spare 'plug in' location] , otherwise pull another SSD out if you have several in your rig. Give it a drive ID, say 'T' Change the drive ID on your current MSFS drive. [Say it is P, rename it 'K'] Copy everything on "K' to the new "T' drive. (You may have to copy it in chunks) When finished, rename "T" to "P" so that all the stuff that looks for "P" [the MSFS drive}, can find a "P" drive. There are instructions on renaming drives [Google for them]. Get the ones for your Windows version [10, 11 etc] T45

Yes they plug into an M.2 slot on your motherboard. They are a lot faster than a sata III SSD. https://www.backblaze.com/blog/nvme-vs-m-2-drives/ | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

That is what I am going to do, instead of worrying about having enough room. I have Macruim PLus so I will just clone my present 500 G SSD to the new one.. Edited October 29, 20223 yr by Bobsk8

October 30, 20223 yr Author I have MSFS on a 1TB SSD, [shows as 931GB] & I put downloads and other items on a separate 2 TB HD. The MSFS SSD is showing as having 271GB left out of the 931GB. So, 660GB is in use. But when I look at MSFS Content Manager it says Space Used is 170GB. Thus I am scratching my head over what is taking up the other 490GB on the MSFS SSD. I have looked in File manager but cannot ID other space users. Any thoughts on how to find that out? Thank you. T45

T45 I use an application called WinDirStat - it can do a lot more than just right clicking Properties on your folders. It also visually tells you what folders and subfolders are largest. https://sourceforge.net/projects/windirstat/ Here I took a crop of the program on my machine. You can see it also highlighted the visual display in white because I clicked on Flight Simulator folder. It's a powerful little app. You can break down into the smallest subfolders if you choose. windirstat by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr Edited October 30, 20223 yr by ryanbatc | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
