The New beta update is incredibly smooth!

Yes, my guess in a week or two if there are no problems.  Mainly A310 fixes anyway, but certainly no worse on frame rate or stability.  Seems quite good.  I have had some really smooth uninterrupted flights.

Rob/Bob (hahaha!): do you know if the heading bug (AP) on the DC-3 will be fixed as well?. It's surprising this bug wasn't noticed during the DC-3 beta, at least internally.

Cheers, Ed

Unfortunately Ed, it isn't fixed in this update, and yes, it is a big thing to miss.  Seems like they had to rush it out of the door to meet the 40th Anniversary deadline.  They are committed to fixing it though.

It is listed by Airplane Heaven / Asobo, so they do know about it and will have it on their fix list: -

  • The Heading Bug for the autopilot cannot be set in the Retrofit variant.
  • The Flaps indicator in the External View HUD is off by one notch.
  • The right fuel selector cannot be switched to the off position.
  • The radio altimeter does not provide accurate indications above 400’.

The modders on flightsim.to may beat them to it!

They have released a new beta version on fixing some of the SU11 issues - You can see the changelog at: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/beta-update-1-29-29-0-nov-17th-2022/558006

Interesting as there is no mention of any attempt at performance issues in this current listing.

Seems smoother to me also, but it again looks like they have reduced visual quality and lowered LOD distances...

Another "plus" is I don't have to close by using "task Manager" now.

Placebo. When you are expecting to see something, sometimes you see it. Even if it is not there.

That is probably not a sim bug, looks like most people don't have it.

It's been recognised as a bug. When multiplayer is on and another user is flying the A310 or Jenny you can hear their engine noise at maximum volume whenever you go external view, no matter how far they are from you.

Lots and lots of people have mentioned this bug.

Well, I consider that a bug in the iniBuilds planes, not a sim bug per say.

Meh, semantics. Either way, it will be fixed in an official update.

By the way, anybody knows if they're planning to release a SU11-hotfix after this new beta anytime soon?.

I think you can call this the hotfix. The hotfix is in beta. Once they are happy with what they have fixed, this hotfix / patch will be released to everyone, hopefully inside the next week. I’m pretty sure it will be a compulsory update for everyone. I doubt there will be another SU11 hotfix after this, unless they find something glaringly wrong that is also an easy fix.

The A310 performance issues may yet be fixed (some say they are, some say not) by them in this hotfix / patch as I am sure the dev team is working on that even tho the beta (or first version thereof), is now active.

It is a Sim bug, happens with no mods installed and it was a bug in an older SU that was fixed and now it's come back again.

SU11 Beta Update from today.

I am never sure if it is a placebo, but my first flight was very smooth with a solid 60fps (4k ultra DLSS balanced), and no stutters as you say.
Big Bear to San Bernardino on the outskirts of LA in the modded DC-3.  Scattered clouds late afternoon.  Absolutely beautiful and not one stutter.
The sim has also been solid for me since SU11.  No connection issues for me tonight up to now, so hopefully that is fixed in this update.

Hi Rob.

Interested to hear your results.

In SU11 (non beta) I have stutters in both dx11 and 12. In SU10, DX11 was smooth but DX12 was stuttery.

Photogrammetry seems to have a bigger hit, too. Currently running with PG off. Graphics at Ultra with Clouds at HIGH.

I run a 12700K, 32GB Ram 3600 DDR4, 3090 GTX and a 4K monitor, locked to 30 FPS. I'm on Win 10 with the Steam version of MSFS. Graphics drivers 526.86.

What OS do you use and what graphics settings do you run other than DLSS?

Depending on what I can achieve with replicating your settings, I might dive in for the new beta.

Cheers

Sure Stu.  I run the latest W11 with HAGS off.  My settings seem very close to yours - 4k ultra except for clouds high (like yours), shadows on 6144 in the user config, both LODS at 250 (one from the user config to reach that setting).  DLSS Balanced (I really can see the difference between this and the DLSS quality setting at 4k, it still looks stunning, but gives back some extra frames).

Photogrammetry off, mainly because I have a slower internet connection and it makes everything look melted!  I ramped up to 60fps vsync in sim recently with the 13900, and it can hold it in most circumstances and is silky smooth.  I wouldn't expect 60fps over London in say the PMDG 737, but it only just dips under.  I have no AI traffic enhancement running at the moment.

Other than that, our hardware specs are very close on virtually everything.  The only thing majorly different now is the CPU.  I just swapped to a 13900KF at a decent price, and my 12900K is currently up on Ebay and I am hoping to get well over £300 back for that.  So it can be a cost effective upgrade, as the 13900 is performing a fair bit better than I expected.

You may want to consider it as a simple swap-in upgrade on your 690Z motherboard (might just need a quick bios upgrade like mine did).  I will tell you why this made a big difference.
At my current settings, my 3080Ti (not overclocked) was only at 80% most of the time at 60fps, showing it still had headroom.  And my set-up was nearly where I wanted it, but just getting the odd stutter here and there so I wasn't quite happy.  On launching task manager, on the performance tab, I noticed my 12900K was topping out on two threads when I had the stuttering (probably on what they call main thread(s)).  They were flat lining at the top.  Putting a 13900KF in now (cheaper than a K and I don't need the inbuilt graphics), the two main threads never top out (running about 90% at highest), and thus no stuttering.

So my hardware change made a difference as well, but all I can report is that, with my settings, in DX11 or DX12, I am getting really pleasing performance with SU11 plus the recent update.  I used to run 30fps silky smooth as obviously my system could easily cope, as yours should, but I find I need 60fps now when using my new head tracker, or it isn't a good experience when looking around - too flickery!

My drivers are 526.98 by the way, but I wouldn't expect that much difference.  We can take this to private mail if I can help you further, as you shouldn't get much stuttering with your setup at 30fps unless there is a configuration problem or some unoptimised scenery you use - you do get some that can have this effect.  I had to bin DD Chicago recently as I was getting 15-20 fps in that area!  Standard scenery with a few fs.to mods and Meigs Field, and it is back to 60.
