Hmm ... all AI traffic is flying at 200 feet??

Featured Replies

ai trafic cant be trusted now, it is getting a total overhaul at some point.

Yea I have seen this -- you are not alone.   Isn't AI supposed to get some improvements in SU12?  Or was I dreaming that somewhere?

AI is just one big laugh, it's "flightsim" unworthy at this point.
Flying at 200 feet, ghosting (nav lights visible but no aircraft), continue to roll down the runway after landing into the nearby city/land, land at the end of the runway, hold in the middle of the runway no clue where to go next, not using first or second taxiway after landing, roll-out speed way to low, taxiing over grass, lots of go-arounds, using wrong runways, stacking itself on or behind other aircraft on the terminal... etc etc etc...

I guess the state of the sim to date shows the reason why 3rd party dev JF FSTraffic is holding off its release because of the wonkiness in its current state.

More than 2 years after release and still no comm. Co. Managed to sell a highworthy AI Traffic addon to msfs.

That does tell something about the complexity around the whole thing as the core devs of the sim itself cannot get the core functions right..

It is a big and worrying issue.

At this point i ask myself: how different can MSFS traffic be from P3D and FSX traffic? Asobo basically copied things like the ATC system over and introduced a few new features to it. So how come the AI traffic is such a step back from 2006's FSX?

I personally use FSLTL coming with the Fly-by-Wire installer. Before i had ther AIG injector but it takes a long time to load up and frequently crashes while FSLTL is more stable and flexible. It claims to inject flightradar24 data into the sim, which i didnt check on, but nicely populates airports. However, there are still some issues with sound getting played in a weird way and lights not working correctly. The OPs issue could however be gone with this. 😉

I think the MSFS terrain system being so different than FSX's terrain system, causes the FSX-inherited AI logic to go haywire.  Thus we get the airliners doing low passes over the airports etc.   That's my theory anyway.

I remember on first release the AI system did work, although not very well as we know, so based on this I would say one of two things have happened.

1- they have made changes to the AI traffic code and basically broken it - step by step..

or

2- they have made changes to other parts of the code which have had unforeseen results on the AI traffic code. Perhaps in replacing other areas of old FX code has indirectly affected this area?

I've always thought if someone created a good working offline/online AI traffic (with GA), they would be able to print their own money!  Same goes for ATC.  They're close out there but not quite.

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

There is enough quality freeware out there (AIG and now FSLTL) that once Asobo fix all of the AI issues, there won't be a need for any payware programs.

Most of the issues are up to Asobo to fix. Third parties can't do anything.

Regarding the topic title, yes, but not very often, the big issue right now, at least with offline traffic, is them flying too high before approach. AIG is working on a partial workaround for this.
