GSX Pro...Im enjoying it and might purchase it?

Yet again, more confusion and fiddling rather than clarification.

Is there a manual I can peruse prior to making a purchasing decision?

For example, can I select a specific gate while on approach that I want GSX to take me to? Is there a drop down from which to select "suitable gates". Are these the gates that are configured already for use with GSX?

Ideally, for me at least, this program would do the following:

Part 1: Preparation for boarding and departure

- Allows me to reposition my aircraft to a "suitable parking spot" where GSX can "do its thing". - refueling, catering, luggage, boarding of crew, boarding of passengers, pushback, etc.

Part 2: Approach, landing, taxi to the gate

- Allows me to select a "suitable gate" prior to landing, upon landing I can call up a follow-me car, at the gate I can make use of all GSX features as soon as I arrive at the gate.

I almost never fly into default airports - it's either freeware from flightsim.to, handcrafted from Asobo, or payware.

Can GSX Pro do that without much of a fuss?

Just a word of caution - the developer claims it can do all this, but it's not as rosy as they make it seem. I would recommend you watch some YouTube videos or else download the free demo and try it out yourself before purchase. If things don't work (and there have been MANY complaints about this), the customer support is not great since they tend to blame everything on your computer and claim it works perfectly on their end so there couldn't possibly be an issue - which is not very helpful for the customer!

So yeah, try before you buy is probably the best way here. If things don't work as expected, don't buy. If you're satisfied that it does everything as claimed, buy it. I tried it out months ago (shortly after launch) and it was very buggy so I got rid of it, but things have apparently improved since then.

These parking max-wingspan changes will be applicable for user aircraft only, right? I mean, having AI using these new wingspan limits would be beyond GSX's scope?

Only AI aircraft, right? This is because I'm using LVFR Static Aircraft bundle, and I don't know if their aircraft are considered as AI or as scenery objects.

You'll have to reread what Umberto wrote. That setting does not actually change the size of the parking. It simply allows you to use a gate with a radius of less than half your wingspan. In other words, it is ignoring the parking size specified in the airport files.

It seems to do these things in my limited use so far, except I select the gate after landing and turning off the runway and coming to a stop as I am going to be waiting for the follow-me car.   Yes you do have a menu to select available/appropriate gates.

I repositioned myself at KSEA a little while ago.  I had started the flight from the World Map Planner as per usual and wanted to try the reposition feature.  I selected another gate for a heavy aircraft.  It positioned me fine but during pushback it suddenly spun the plan 180 degrees and now it's pushing back going forward!  FWIW it was a tight gate for a heavy.  This is the first time this has happened in 5 flights.

It is a bold piece of software to try to make work correctly and I support the dev in his efforts.  The animation quality is not bad but it isn't great either and I read comments that it was a challenge to try to get right.  But overall I feel it is well worth the $$ especially now on sale!  It's mostly been plug and play and I'm still new at this version though it is very similar to P3D version.

Most likely this is an issue with the airport. Since using GSX it has become more clear to me that many airport layouts are terrible in MSFS.

Undercarriage lever a bit sticky was it, Sir?

Yep that‘s a problem with default airport layouts. The taxiways and gates are often badly designed. When you tell GSX to do a pushback „nose right“ it can‘t just push you back in a 90 degrees curve, because then it would finish anywhere but on the taxiline (also some taxilines are not in a 90 angle to the gate at all). So automatic pushback has to read the AFCAD data in regards to taxiways and gates and pathing in general and the AI generated layout is often beyond reason.

Therefore this won‘t happen at all at custom airports with GSX, because their layout is not AI-generated but handmade. If you are on a default airport you can always just do a custom pushback (i.e. place the aircraft symbol where you want to be pushed back to) to be safe.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Maybe this is why there are so many GSX airport profiles appearing on flightsim.to.

How do I install the trial version from the universal installer? When I hit the install button i am asked for an activation key, when I enter some random digits I get an error message and nothing installs.

Yes, anything you do in GSX customization, will only have an effect on the GSX when used with your own airplane.

AI will always use data from the scenery itself, since the AI system doesn't know anything about GSX customization data. This includes not just AI planes, but also AI Ground Vehicles, including those that are replacing the default Ground Vehicles, including GSX's ones, because before you call the GSX menu, all those AI ( planes and ground vehicles ) are still completely handled by the simulator and thus are not affected in any way by GSX so, even if they "look like" GSX vehicles (they surely do, because GSX is *also* a default Ground Vehicle replacer ), they don't *act* like GSX vehicles, until after you open the GSX menu there, and call GSX to be used with your airplane. In that moment, the "GSX" vehicles that were up to that point behaving like default Ground Vehicles, will be removed, and replaced with "proper" GSX vehicles, that are controlled by GSX and works according GSX  own rules and customizations.

Quoting from the manual ( which can be downloaded from our forum without installing the product )

To install GSX, you need to purchase a License first. However, there’s no need to buy a license to use GSX on any FSDT airport, it’s completely free to use with all its features, with no limitations. Buying GSX will allow you to use it on any airport, both default or 3rd party. Because of this, and a license would be normally required to Install GSX, the “Install” button will be available as long as you have at least one FSDT airport active so you can install GSX without a license, and use it on FSDT airports

You can say this is why lots of development work went into being sure the customization features are as extensive as possible, which in turn made lots of profiles being made as a consequence.  It would be impossible an unrealistic for us to fix all possible issues with every airport out there.

Yes, I've read the instruction, but the manual also states:

"Without a license, the program will work on 3 additional airports, KSFO, LIMC and EDDM."

So, if I understand this correctly: if I have no FSDT airports, the trial version won't work on these three airports either?

Does the trial version not work with FSDT airports bought through the MS Marketplace?

Sure - that wasn't a criticism.  I was replying to the poster before me talking about this matter, but forgot to quote him.

Like you say, the product allows for this, and the people who contribute on flightsim.to are a massive team.

This is the way the market is going, and it's great when that capability is considered.
Otherwise, like you say, we would wait a very, very long time for a small team of developers to cover every possible airport / airfield in the sim.

By the way, I took advantage of the offer and bought GSX as I am looking to start recording videos soon.  This will add a lot to the videos I am sure.

Yes, you need to have at least one active FSDT airport to install GSX Pro and use it ( fully featured ) there, and on Trial elsewhere.

The reason why there isn't a Trial opened to everybody, is because GSX Pro installer is way bigger than previous GSX, about 3 times the size, and offering a complete Trial to everybody, would have been too costly for us in bandwidth, so we restricted it to existing customers.

I bought Zürich Kloten from the Marketplace, but I still can't install GSX Pro.....
