CONSTELLATION as AI

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to create a TRAFFIC file using Constellation aircrafts,TWA,KLM,and PAA within the KLAX area. At first I flew from KTOA to KLAX and back. But the aircrafts NEVER stopped or attempted to land at the destination. They just kept going past and beyond. Then I tried the plans below with the posted results:AC#38,CONST,1%,4Hr,IFR,00:00:00,00:18:48,060,F,0CON,KLGB,02:09:59,02:28:47,060,F,0TWA,KSMOwent past KSMO heading North until it disappearedAC#39,CONST,1%,4Hr,IFR,00:00:00,00:24:01,060,F,0CON,KVNY,02:09:59,02:34:00,060,F,0TWA,KONTdisappeared right after takeoff, but apparently picked up the return flight KVNY to KONT about an hour later then disappearedall the airports seem to have ample parking spaces.AC#40,CONST,1%,4Hr,IFR,00:00:00,00:20:51,060,F,0CON,KPOC,02:09:59,02:30:50,060,F,0TWA,KHHRdid not appear at all.Appreciate any help.Thanks.Abe

In FSX when AI aircraft do that (fly on past where they are supposed to land) that means there is no correct parking at the destination airport, or the airport has no RUNWAY link defined.I do not know what Constellation model you are using, but in its aircraft.cfg file there is a wing_span value. Half of this value converted to meters is the minimum parking spot size for that aircraft. If the destination airport has either too small of spots, or too large (yes, too large can be ignored also) then the AI aircraft can do exactly as you described.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Thanks for the info Rhett. The wing-span of the constellation is 123.The closest thing to is the 757 at 124.83.So I am going to change the constellation wing-span # to 124.83, hopefully this will do the trick. Thanks again, Rhett, any further help is appreciated.Abe

Changing the wing-span did not work. It is still overflying.Any other suggestions would be appreciated.Thanks.Abe

Don't adjust the Conny's wing_span value. That's not a good practice for a number of reasons.Your wing_span value is 123. That's feet. That equals 37.5 meters. Half of that is 18.75 meters. So your destination airport needs a 19.0m parking spot.In the Conny's aircraft.cfg file, what does it say foratc_parking_codes=??Let's make sure that if it says RAMP, you have a RAMP spot that is 19.0m at your destination airport. If it says GATE, then make sure you have a GATE spot that is 19.0m at your destination airport. If you have the SDK installed, you can check the parking at any airport in FSX by looking at the FS10airports.dat file that comes with the SDK. I have no idea what your destination airport is, or if it has been modified or not. What is your destination airport, and is it modified?RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Thanks Rhett.1. The Conny does not have "atc_parking_codes="2. My destination airports are KLAX and KSMO, I checked "FS10airports.dat", neither has a 19.0m ramp, lots of 18.0.3. I backed up "FS10airports.dat" then I changed 2 Gates from 18.0 to 19.0......would the change be effectual?4. KLAX has been modified.Let me know if I missed something.Abe

Oh, I meant atc_parking_types=. You should add the following line in the [flightsim.x] section of the Conny's aircraft.cfg: atc_parking_types=RAMPOr you could use GATE, as it is your preference. GATE does not mean a parking spot will have a jetway. All it means is the spot will have a chance to have a pushback tug and other ground vehicles next to it. RAMP parking spots will never have these vehicles.2. That is the problem. Your aircraft has no atc_parking_types= line AND your airports do not have appropriate parking for that aircraft. 3. No that change won't do anything. :) The FS10airports.dat file is only used if you are making AI traffic bgl files--it is not used by the sim.You would need to actually change the airport parking to change the spots. But I would not do that. Instead I would probably changeatc_parking_codes=GATEand then I would change wing_span to:wing_span=117I know I said not to change wing_span, but in this case, the above two changes to the aircraft.cfg would be best. Your other option is to modify both airports in ADE or FSXPlanner (or AFCAD, and decompile and recompile) and add a 19.0m RAMP or GATE spot. I don't think you want to go to all of that trouble. :)Anyway, if you make the above changes, the Constellation should land and park at any of the 18.0m GATE spots at your airports. This means that it might park at spots with Jetways, which won't be good for a propliner.Propliners usually parked out on the ramp and airstairs were used. But you know that.To get that kind of vintage parking at a modern airport (and all of them are modern airports in FS), you would need to modify the parking at the airport using ADE or FSXPlanner or AFCAD.Tom Gibson, who has not made any move to FSX, has done several AFCAD's for FS2004 with vintage parking. To port those to FSX you would need to decompile them using Jon Masterson's BGL2XML, then recompile using the SDK's BGLCOMP.Keep in mind that since we have fudged the wing_span value, probably there will be very little space around the ends of the wings when the Conny is parked in the 18.0m spot. Really, Ideally, that aircraft needs a 19.0m radius spot, but 18.0m is close enough.4. That is fine that KLAX is modded, (I am using Ray Smith's or Jim Vile's, can't recall which...), but it won't matter unless there is a 19.0m spot there. I'd change the wing_span and atc_parking_codes in this case.Experiment, and see if it works. If it doesn't work, then there is something else causing the problem.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Thanks again, Rhett. As you can see below, I modified the wing-span to 117 andatc_parking_types=RAMP, atc_parking_codes=RAMP, it did not work.I am attaching the whole aircraft.cfg. Maybe you can see something worth modifying.Appreciate the help.Abe[fltsim.0]title=CONSTELLATION-TWAsim=L049Amodel= ;TWA Star of Switzerlandpanel= ;Rebuilt from VN2 to VN049 but see development notessound=texture=TWAkb_checklists=L-049A_checkkb_reference=L-049A_refui_manufacturer=CONSTELLATIONui_type=CONSTui_variation=TWAatc_heavy=0atc_id=N90831atc_airline=atc_flight_number=104description=FSDZigns BetaTHREE, TWA, N90831, Star of Switzerland. If used for short haul fuel must be removed so that weight does not exceed 77,800lbs on landing. When short hauling the L049D/E or L149 depart at 85,000lbs max.None of these aircraft were routinely used for short hauls, but e.g. BOAC departing Heathrow needed to tank at Shannon or Prestwick before crossing the Atlantic to tank again at Gander(CYQX) before continuing to CYUL, KEWR, or KIDL (KJFK). Hi,Sorry, this is the first time I've seen this post. The reason it's not working is quite simple - the AIR file is not AI compatible. Copy in a default AIR file (like the DC-3 or Beech Baron or even the 737), and then change the sim= line of each cfg entry to point to the new AIR file. Keep in mind it now won't fly very well as a user aircraft, so you might want to make separate cfg sections just for the AI versions (if you want to make other changes to the cfg file (likely), you would want to copy the folder with a new name, and change all the title= and variation= lines to something with AI in them (they must be unique from the originals)). Then use those titles in your AI files.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

BEAUTIFUL - MAGICThanks Tom,I just replaced, like you suggested, the AIR file with an FS2004-DC3.It worked like magic. I just renamed the file, this way I did not have to do any pointing. That simple, thanks Tom. I noticed as you mentioned that:1. The AI's,TWA,KLM,and PAA, each took different routing to KLAX.2. When I speeded up FSX by 2x and 4x they became very jerky, I only did that because I was anxious to see the result. There was also some zigzagging while taxiing with the speedup. Thanks again, Tom and Rhett, for taking time out to help a desperate man.One more thing. Would the conny do touch-and-go's in its original state or its new state?Appreciate everything.Abethe TWA is the AI-I sort of piloted the PAA(g)
