How did this happen to Sofia, Bulgaria?

Recommended Posts

Flew into this city and was amazed at the detail in this city at night which I don't see in US cities.  How did this happen, how many other 'cities' have this much night lighting detail with litup windows in the buildings etc?

I think they adjusted the global lighting since I flew one from my local in Houston last night and had the same visual experience. Outstanding ASOBO..

Could it be caused by the autogen buildings in Sofia? AFAIK, in photogrammetry cities, there is not such a dense night lighting of building windows, let alone the "TV flickering" effect.

Yep that's the reason.

Is this from the latest patch they did this?

Looks fantastic.  I rarely fly at night, so will try Sofia and a few more cities to see how much has been improved.

I flew into KSEA w/ PG turned off and didn't see anything quite like that.  PG is really not a good thing often is it, in areas not optimized for it. What exactly is MSFS' 'autogen'?  It looks a whole lot more plausible than autogen in P3D.  So many weird looking buildings/plants w/ PG enabled often it would seem.  Will that eventually be resolved?  I think I will fly w/ PG off for a while and see how it is.

Oh, and I absolutely had PG on for that screen capture at Sofia.  Just today I turned it off for the first time in many months.

Since there’s no photogrammetry for Sofia it does‘t matter if it‘s turned on or off, you always get autogen buildings. I agree with the explanations above, night lighting in non-PG areas looks better.

The difference to P3D is that MSFS autogen is created by an AI algorithm interpretating satellite photos. Therefore building types are more accurate in big cities. Also autogen in general is much better quality (model, night lighting) in MSFS.

Well all I can add is Houston wasn't lit up like this (streets & ground clutter) before this latest update and I didn't opt into the beta for this update. It has been a while since I've flown though.
