Honeycomb vs Turtle Beach Velocity One yoke? Also pedals?

With that tray underneath I would guess the Boeing yoke would present an issue.  The ends of my knobs are 4.5 inches below the bottom of desk which is about the same amount the front part of the yoke is as well.  Depending on your chair height, the bottom front part of the Boeing yoke is in what I would call a "dangerous area" for a certain male body part....

Oh my, i guess ill find out.. i found some other trays that drop lower, but i think thats a problem for my chair, it wont go lower, im hoping in a way that the alpha yoke pitch is fixed on the pc only one when it gets here, but doubt it.  I heard similar tales from the turtle beach one, so that only leaves the boeing or my clunky sticky ch eclipse.

Switching gears again back to pedals..

The MFG graphite with graphite footrest pack: $295 https://mfg-sim.com/en/rudders/57-mfg-crosswind-v3-graphite.html

Do i need other packs like any of these : https://mfg-sim.com/en/4-rudders

Im assuming the 295 pack is good enough for GA, not sure what i gain with any of the other combos or ones like that  $326 pack here

https://mfg-sim.com/en/rudders/55-mfg-crosswind-v3-graphite-2x-footrests-pack.html

EDIT: i guess you can pick combat style or airbus etc, but id rather have just a universal set that i can use on all things, so i assume the $295 graphite kit is good enough?  Im lazy i'd never swap them probably haha (i do see there is a cessna footrest, perhaps i want that over the graphite choice which is flatter?)

There is also mention of needing a 4mm tool, do you need the one they sell specifically?

Also, do i need the hydraulic dampening kit, some say yes? (and the spring mod too or only hydro?)

@theskyisthelimit I wanted to reply to this post sooner, but it was late last night when I first got around to reading it on here. Anyhow, here is some feedback that might help you with your decision process. I own both a Honeycomb Alpha Yoke and Bravo Throttle. I think both of them are fine products when compared with similarly priced products that they were originally aimed at competing with (Saitek/Logitech yoke and throttle and CH products), and I never had any of the problems with mine that some others have reported. There are a few things I personally didn't like though. For the Alpha yoke, plenty of buttons and the mounting options worked fine for me, but as fly GA and Tubeliners, all those toggle switches just wern't working out for me with my jet setups. For the Bravo Throttle, it is helpful to watch a few YouTube videos on getting it setup the best. My only real negative on the throttle is the throttle handles themselves just feel small and minimal I guess. I wanted a chunkier feel so to speak. So, looking at alternatives, I tried the Turtle Beach Velocity One. Thank goodness for Amazon. That controller is shabby, and I don't use that term lightly. It feels very cheap, the throttle levers have no tension and are very loose, almost to the point of falling down when you push them up and take your hand off. The whole product felt more cheaply made than even the Saitek/Logitech controller. It has plenty of buttons, sure, but that does not outweigh the cheap feel. I returned it to Amazon after one night of trying to fly with it. I now use a Virpil flightstick and a TM Warthog throttle (I already had the TM HOTAS before I got my Honeycomb stuff). I think a HOTAS setup is the best for MSFS because it is flexible and gives you lots of options when flying a variety of aircraft. I also want to mention the MFG rudder pedals. I got a set of those over five years ago and have never even looked at replacing them. They are solid, well made and work great. There are lots of options out there for flight controllers, so I hope you find something that works best for you.

Then hold off upgrading pedals until you can afford the MFG CW3's.  I have logged over 9,500 hours of sim flying over the years and have used countless variations of flight controls. I currently use Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, and Crosswind V3 pedals with a couple of CW options.  Totally dialed in to my MSFS GA rooted flying.

If you are exclusively flying commercial jets look elsewhere for guidance.  If you are flying GA then consider these recommendations.

Do you find that you prefer a certain pedal footrest set over the others.. trying to determine which i could use all of the time and be content, so i may get the standard graphite and the cessna ones, maybe leave cessna on?  Did you do the hydraulic mod and the spring mod or do you only need the hydro one, does any 4mm or 6mm hex key work on assembling?

TM Boeing Edition Yoke is the best piece of hardware peripheral ever for me--but I have a desk that can accommodate it well as it has a concave curved leading edge and even then the bottom protrudes into the space between my legs.  The yoke itself is phenomenal in all ways in terms of resolution, stiffness in each axis and of course has high resolution magnetic sensors, all metal internals.  I fly CRJ700, PMDG 738 and B78X HD.  Now and again I go up in GA planes and it's great there as well.

If you really wanted to go there you could arrange ergonomics such that the base does go between your legs which doesn't create a problem per se.  As you can see it works well in otherwise tight quarters and sports a tablet holder which I bent to use as a place for my keyboard to keep it within reach.  The TQ is actually the right fit for me as well as I did not have room to hang the big Bravo on.  Some described it as 'flimsy' but it's far from that especially compared to the truly cheapo logitech which I had previously as well.  The dots you see on buttons are glow-in-the-dark tape for night flying ;o)spacer.png

Nice setup there, yeah i can probably create some sort of swing out adjustable height tray for kb and mouse (though i need about 27" width).

Do you think the stiffness and resolution is realistic even for GA though.. its been many many years since i flew a GA aircraft so i have no idea what it should feel like. Im mainly VR so i hope there are similar amounts of buttons and hat switches to the ch eclipse.

No can put the keyboard on top as in the photo?   I had my keyboard atop my prior Saitek Yoke which had a flat top and just fashioned a way to prop it so that is what I was used to and did not want to change that.  If you're pretty much GA it arguably is not the best fit especially w/ your ergonomic concerns.  I think stiffness & resolution are perfect--but again it's pretty much airliners for me and worse than that:  I don't know what realistic is supposed to feel like!  There are a lot of buttons and even two axes but those will be hard to get to as they front and low.  I used them briefly until I assigned the spoiler axis on the TM Boeing TQ to also operate brakes since I don't have pedals and don't plan to ever go there.  I also have the left trigger button assigned to brakes.  It also has an XBOX button which I've assigned to bring up GSX dialogue.

I guess the keyboard could go ontop, though in a work from home situation, i dont think i'd want that long term haha.

Im sure ill figure something out, ill at least compare the honeycomb and determine.

Good luck fortunately you have some great choices now and do not need to go into expensive Fulcrum or Yoko products for a very high quality sim yoke.   Even Honeycomb now sports magnetic sensors I believe to good time to jump in there as well.

It's a very dark yoke w/ no lights anywhere on it!  So it helps at night for sure!

From what I've heard, the new version of the Alpha (XPC) should be much improved in this regard ...

I have the XPC and I have to say I am disappointied with this part of the yoke. It's way stiffer than I would like to be honest. Roll is wonderfull but the pitch is a bit tricky on the flare in small planes.
