Would love to enlist in the beta, but I'm afraid of this

Quote

There is always a risk that you may have to re-install the sim when joining/leaving a flight, so please keep this in mind before participating.

Does this really mean that you may need to reinstall after any flight? Anyone have bad experiences with this?

Undercarriage lever a bit sticky was it, Sir?

With the Steam version, you hardly know anything changed with the exception of the Update announcement from Steam..Been in Steam version beta since the beginning and never had an issue.

'Flight', in this case means 'beta'.

The risk is that it is possible for your installation to get corrupted when leaving the 'beta'. This is most likely to happen if you have installed your 'store' version to its default location.

I have been in 'beta' since its inception and switched back once. Never had any problems. My installation is NOT in the default location.

I have never even had to disable my community folder.

Something appears to have been lost in translation there 😃

Been in and out of betas for the last 6 months. Never had an issue with the installation getting corrupted, luckily. But installing to a custom location could be part of it. And I've always had a backup of the Officials folder, just in case. If anything goes south, reverting to the stable release is just a matter of copying the Official folder to the custom MSFS location and reinstalling.

In XP/P3D forums bubbles, they still believe on all of the above 😄

I think those bubbles have become pretty small and stable now. However, in fairness, I think many of these folks have reasons for staying with P3D. Some of these seem to me to be based on misperceptions of MSFS, the kind of statements that Ricardo41 posted above, but others seem to have a good grasp of the various sims and their capabilities and have a preference for P3D, and I think that deserves respect. It is an unfortunate characteristic of our time that differences in preference are often couched and presented as arguments of fact, but this is very common in today's day and age -- it even has a name: emotivism.

Great insight! I think the magnitude of MSFS now and the recent explosion of refinements, addons, high quality aircraft, insane high quality free updates like the avionics discussed here (surpassing all expectations since the initial launch) has amplified the success far out of reach by the other platforms. The other platforms all had a place in their time.

Funnily enough I was reading comments from Eaglesoft that they aren't convinced that MSFS is the "future" of flight simulation.

Fortunately for MSFS users we don't have to wait for them to get some business jets that (from experience) are better than their latest offering.

It is the same Eaglesoft who decided not to use Navigraph for data right and making people pay for another navdata subscription? IIRC.

I've been wanting to get into the Longitude for a while.  Seems like now is as good a time as any.  How is the flight model in it?  I know it's a default aircraft so I don't really know what to expect in terms of accuracy.

Strangely enough I feel weird flying a "default" aircraft when I have so many awesome payware ones in my hangar to choose from.  But if it's good...then that's all that matters.

Yes, to be fair their development cycle is about 10 years - so they have to be very careful what they develop for....

"Flight" is Asobo-speak for a beta program. Really bad choice of words in a flight simulator.

People have in the past had problems at the end of a beta, on the ms store version, but reading people's posts it seems to have been sorted.  Having said that I don't participate, myself.

I'm not sure I can take much more or this!😂 I'm being overwhelmed with Gliders, Helicopters, payware quality planes and now study level default GA avionics? Have mercy on me.

It’s so true and a good problem to have.  So much to choose from that I often can’t decide what to fly!
