Performance with many seperate AI-Traffic files

Hello,In another forum I read that many seperate files for the AI-Traffic can push down your performance. Is this true?I ask because WOAI offers the airlines in seperate files and the more airlines are published the more files are in the FSX scenery folder. At the moment I use a combination of MyTraffic X and WOAI. All airlines are published by WOAI I delete in MyTraffic X.Patric

No one has every demonstrated with repeatable tests whether one file or a multiple files impacts performance differently.Load time might be slightly slower with multiple files.Management of traffic, updating repaints and schedules is significantly more difficult with one big file.Both methods still suffer from file read order problems.The first traffic file in the ASCII sort order is read first and the traffic loaded, then the second file, then the third file, etc...The same thing occurs in one big file where the first flight is read, then the second, then the third, etc.That's how AAL & COA can fill up the parking at KATL - leaving almost no room for DAL.

Hi Reggie and Patric, It's a bit like using common texture folders for AI = slightly to heavily counter productive depending on a couple of further details. The lesser calls, the smoother things are. In dense AI environments, the amount of 'bad OS-calls' easily amounts to a couple of hundred thousand in a roughly 20 minute flight. This number can be pushed to a fraction if... Loop back to start. Of course, only if smoothness is considered a form of performance. I also doubt it has a major impact on average framerates. ;-) Cheers and kind regards Jaap

I would rather organize my files by airline, which I consider to be logical and reasonable, rather than have one or two or three big omnibus multi-meg bgl files containing many airlines.IMO, the perf impact of loading 20-60-100 traffic bgl's is not much compared to the organizational benefits of keeping them separated by airline. @JaapWe already know this topic from the other forum.;) Of course I want to have max possible frames but I think the WOAI files are really good, so I can't live without them.Patric
