MSFS is now 10 million players strong

Featured Replies

My assumption is that both Assobo and Microsoft are doing quite well from the revenue standpoint, hence the reason they're actively working on updates etc. This release certainly wasn't a flop. Quite frankly I am quite shocked that we aren't on a subscription model and it's been 2.5 years and I haven't spent a penny on licensing/versioning costs.

Really, how does calling MSFS a "game" takeaway from it success as a sim, and the now 10 million 'user' milestone???

This logic will only serve you well on that 'other' forum, where you claimed that MSFS could not measure up to that 'other' sim

Hehehe...serve me? I'm morbidly curious: how do these forums serve you? Does the blue heart and green arrow help you sleep better at night?

I'm not claiming it hasn't been successful. Even 1/2 million actual users in this market is a raging success. No questions there. Also, what claims have I made about XP market superiority over fs2020? None. Measure up? I mean...I'll let the FAA and NASA be the judge of that.

I call it a 'game' because all aircraft are fundamentally modeled as a balsa-glider geometry. Asobo calls it the Planform Model. The fact that the model then gets scaled and squashed to fit the FSX model is also quite funny. Actually, the UI is pretty silly too, but that's neither here nor there. I do think the weather model is kind of cool though...

I agree. Precisely why I don't use this 'game'.

So you admit that MSFS is not worth your time, and that you don't use it.

And yet, you find yourself in this thread apparently mad that millions do use it.

I'm just going to let you think about "your" logic and intentions here....

Why do you think I'm mad?

I commented here on the corporate hot air of declaring 10 million users. I said that the vast majority of them (say 9.5 million worth) more than likely couldn't care less about flight simulation.

You're the one make personal accusations, putting words in my mouth, and repeatedly using the word 'game'.

Also, didn't you just #notworthit???

Oh dear, why do I have my iPad open right now????
I’m sure millions of users do not have the slightest insight as to why Flight Simulator would be debated as a game or a simulator. I’m sure the millions of users do not care how the a/c they fly in Flight Simulator is modelled.

Those millions of users on this platform are having the time of their life immersed in aircraft aviating the skies over the continents. No pretences about what should be to preclude the experience of flight in Flight Simulator. Happy landings to those 10 million players!

I think you'd be embarrassed if you realized how embittered and Scrooge-like you appear -- because your sim is the Ghost of Christmas Past. You're irked at how cheerful everyone is here in the MSFS forum. We're enjoying a great time with all the spectacular updates. But you just stopped by to say "Bah humbug" and to tell us how Santa's flying reindeer have a more accurate flight model back where you come from.

I'm a bot, David. Can't you tell?

But by all means, keep embarrassing yourself by not only quoting me to trigger a response, but by also trying to shame someone in a public discussion forum as if trying to change their perspective. Via name-calling no less.

You're better than that.

Then why are you here stirring the pot?  I seem to remember you bashing people for coming over to the XP forum and doing exactly what you are doing.  Sound like hypocrisy to you?  And now you cry name calling again?  Doesn't that sound childish to you?  Do you get pleasure coming here and calling MSFS a game?  Seems pretty childish to me.  Are you trying to convince us or yourself?

We can't all be as gracious and diplomatic as you are.

I'm responding to people quoting me (or misquoting/misrepresenting as it happens so often). I've never bashed people for coming to any forum nor do I call people names, very contrary to what I see here.

As for calling an inanimate object (software in this case) a 'game'? My original comments were about 10 million.... I'm also not the the only one to call 'hot air' on those numbers. You folks handled the rest.

Can't be diplomatic? Can't be respectful? I disagree. Though per the perpetual name-calling and mis-quoting and representing, I agree that quite a few don't.

You truly have no self-awareness whatever. You injected yourself here calling the new users of MSFS bored and drunk. But that doesn’t count as being disrespectful, does it? Someone else has already pointed out your hypocrisy.

I didn't say ALL were drunk. Nor implied that they were here reading these forums. I was very much targeting the xbox user base there. All 9.5 million cited here. Consumption of alcoholic sedatives does happen to be a legal activity regularly enjoyed by a great many people in this world. So, majority? Maybe? Unfortunately, I leave that as an option.

Bored? Same xbox argument. Again, inanimate object of affection we're talking about here. Not seeing a problem.

But yeah, it would be stunning to see all 10 million in the same server at the same time. I agree!
