December 15, 20223 yr Hi, This is more for those that fly via exterior views and don't use a 3D panel to fly in XP12. I asked Ben some time ago about the nice snow and rain effects one gets to sees while flying from the 3D cockpit on the windscreen, I asked if we could get these effects while in exterior view mode for those that run full flight decks. Ben's answer was.. there is nothing to attach the rain and snow effects to while in exterior view mode. This got me thinking, keep in mind I don't know anything about programming so this may be a ridiculous question. Would it be possible to add a clear windscreen to the exterior view of XP12 so the rain and snow effect can be produced accumulate while in exterior view mode. Make another exterior view mode for flight decks. December 15, 20223 yr The rain effect uses physics to follow the contour of the shape of the glass. A flat window would not have any physics to do that with. Edited December 15, 20223 yr by JGregory

One would have to create a 3D cockpit in blender with nothing but a few window panes. I've seen cockpit modelers do this in the past: strip out the 3D cockpit object in planemaker. Though that technique does also remove the windscreen. Not a trivial task if you don't know what you're doing in a 3d modeler. Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...

Hi, I took a few hours and did some work in an attempt to get 3D rain on my setup, se is getting there, but I have to figure out why I don't get any rain where the old shell posts were located. You can see the dry spots on the windscreen. Correcting this issue may be above my ability. December 19, 20223 yr Could someone please answer my question? Does XP-12 not model weather effects such as rain, snow, fog, haze, air pollution, etc in views from outside the cockpit? What you don’t get is the impact of the rain on the windscreen/ camera. So if you’re in chase camera mode, you’ll see your plane in front of you, you’ll see the rain falling down - but you won’t see the drops on the “screen” as if it was a real camera in the rain. this is fine, but OP was asking because he flies a home cockpit, so he’s sitting inside a real cockpit, using one of the views that’s removes the HUD and everything else - and even though he has a real windscreen in front of him, the rain falls straight down and breaks immersion.
