Confused as hell at low frame rates

We need to determine if this is a PC problem or a MSFS problem. Download 3DMark. Run it and post results. If someone with similar specs can run the same test (or lookup results from others with similar specs) we can determine if this is MSFS related or not.

This is indeed what he should do first.

If he gets low benchmarks than it might be that he has a hardware issue.

Throttling cpu or gpu / mobo issue ….

If i may throw this question in: What exactly does this setting do? I actually never fiddled with it. Is this changing the overall rendering?

It will change all graphic settings to match the performance of tour system

Hi all, hoping some of my fellow flight simmers can give me some advice as to where I am going wrong.

I am completely confused and have tried so many things I have lost count.

I thought I had a decent set up, but now I am starting to wonder.

My system is as follows:-

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz

Geforce RTX 3090Ti

32Gb Ram

But I am struggling to get above 20 FPS, and anywhere built up I am as low as 8 FPS, even though my CPU and GPU are both only running at around 30% (although I do notice sometimes there may be one or two cpu cores running higher than the rest). As flying Helicopters is my preference, especially in VR, I simply cannot fly it with such low frame rates.

I do have a fair few addons such as traffic via FSLTL, REX Weather Force, and I try to use FSHud for my ATC, but even without them running, I am getting these awful frame rates. At one time I was getting OK, but never great frame rates, but since the last couple patches, I seem to be getting worse frame rates than people with 1080Ti cards.

Any one got any ideas? is my CPU not up too scratch?  I am so confused, and just want to fly...

Hoping someone out there can get back up in my Helicopters.

Kind regards

Rob

Sir you have a much more powerful system than I have. However, I can fly around my Sim with hardly any Sutters at all. I really try not to judge my flight sim on frame rates, but more on smoothness arriving at whatever airport or scenery I'm flying I'm for visual effects. You probaly just need to adjust your settings to get smoothness and great vsual effects flying around. I've adjusted my setting to this guy's advice and very happy with the results. you can give it a try and see what you think. (*DETAILED SETTINGS GUIDE!* ► GRAPHICS + PERFORMANCE ► SIM UPDATE 11 ► MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR! - YouTube). I can fly my Fenix Arbus or HPG Helos now to any pay ware airport or scenery without stutters or my sim becoming a slide show.

Are you sure you have your monitor plugged into the correct port at the back of your PC? In other words, you have it plugged into your GPU and not the onboard (motherboard) graphics port. It is an easy mistake to make.

I have not read thru all posts but have you established that this is ONLY a MSFS performance problem or is it affecting everything on your PC?

This, check this. I have seen this mistake more times than I care to remember.

Hi,
Try downloading Driver Booster 10 (https://www.iobit.com) - free version - and update ALL the system drivers on your PC.

Seems the link is broken on that page.

run 10-minute Cinebench R23 and see if your CPU scores somewhere near what it should.

Tried this, looked like my CPU did ok

Check in Task manager all your CPU cores are enabled or showing. Also check on Task Manager you have 32GB RAM showing.

Again, all seems to be ok, although I noted Virtualization is on. Did someonemention turning OFF virtualization?

UserBench results, seems my System drive and in fact ALL my SSD drives are letting me down? Could this be my problem? As all my games seem to run fine except MSFS2020.

One other thing I noticed in MSFS2020 and also happened in UserBench, is whenever I move my mouse, it freezes MSFS or Userbench. As soon as I leave my mouse still, it carries on as normal.

Before running loads of tests and doing the more complicated stuff do the simple and obvious stuff such as the other chap suggested and make sure you have your monitor plugged into the graphics card and not the onboard socket for you CPU graphics and that you are indeed using the graphics card as opposed to the onboard graphics of your CPU.

It's a rookie mistake that even the most experienced of us have made that can result in exactly the kind of dumbfounding and dreadful performance you are witnessing when everything else seems fine. I did it once because I was too lazy to move my tower to look at what I was doing whilst watching snooker.

Graphics card and SSD issues. So this is not an MSFS issue.

You have set  'Global Rendering Quality'  to Ultra. Why not try to set this to High-end or even down to Medium. I bet your frame rates will go up and visually there will not be that much difference

I changed all my settings to LOW, and it was actually slower than on Ultra. I then went through them Medium High, Ultra etc, no massive difference and nothing noticeable between high and ultra.
