Save function for Fenix A320 is completely useless???

Recommended Posts

First CTD in ages in Fenix A320 a few minutes after takeoff. Zero clue why. Happened completely out of the blue. Had to start all over again. I need a way to save and reload if I'm going to keep doing long flights in the Fenix A320. Otherwise just seem to be wasting time waiting for the random CTD to happen midflight for no discernable reason.

After testing the save/load function, I noted the load function does not even reload fuel quantity and payload like it does for other aircraft. Of course it does not reload the MCDU and panel state either.

Has anyone found a way to save/load flights in the Fenix A320 and have some ability to resume the flight without the plane being knocked back to 100% default settings?

The lack of a serious save function remains the last must-have for me with this sim that is totally missing.

I feel your pain. While I can't wait for the PMDG 777 to hit the market, I am legitimately worried that I'll have some random CTD in hour 12 of 16 on a long-haul, and have to start the whole thing over.

In FSX I also frequently saved while descending in a high fidelity aircraft on an IFR flight so I could practice those approaches again, something that's still impossible in MSFS, sadly.

CTDs are never fun and kill the immersion, but at least in FSX third party devs could panel state save and you could resume with real-time weather. Curious what others say, but once Asobo/other devs makes this possible, I will really have nothing to complain about with our gorgeous sim. 🙂

Being able to save and load a flight with complex airliners that can involve a lot of prep and long flight times should be pretty standard at this point. Fenix is working on a rewrite of their EFB that will eventually allow for panel state saving, though that’s not necessarily the same thing as being able to load a flight midair.

nope, its not the same thing..

the OP's issue (as well as mine in many cases) is to be able to resume a flight if and when there's a CTD.. we want the complete flight and panel state restored to the last spec..

OP - you can do this flawlessly in pmdg 737 .. try it out.. save a flight, quit the sim, reopen the same flight next day, you can pick it up exactly where you left it.. including the fuel, pax, flight plan and every switch on the flight deck exactly the way it was..

this is yet to come in fenix.. they might be workin on it as part of their efb rewrite.. lets wait and see..

this is actually a must have for any airliner in any sim.. not many seem to realize this.. no sim is free from random CTDs.. no simmer is free from real life interruptions either.. you've gotta be able to save and reload a flight perfectly..

A quote from the PMDG 737 manual:

Save/Load from the MSFS menu: You can also conduct save/load operations from the MSFS menu. The PMDG 737 will intercept the save/load function and create both the MSFS save file and the PMDG 737 panel save file for you using the name you select. You will then be able to load your flight and panel state from the MSFS menu as well and the airplane condition will be just as you left it. On the PMDG SETUP menu you will notice a STARTUP STATE prompt. You can use this prompt to force MSFS to load the PMDG 737 in exactly the same configuration every time you launch the simulator.

I expect that this feature will make it to the 777 as well. I've used this feature with the 737 BBJ and can confirm that it works.

Totally agree.

However, if FSiPanel is capable of completely configuring the Fenix for an approach at any airport you care to mention, including the MCDU, based upon the approach parameters, then surely it shouldn't be a giant leap to do the same, but this time, based upon saved parameters ?

I think the majority of simmers don't need a save function, because MSFS is very stable. I also think that saving flights, which I have never found to work well in both FSX and P3D, is probably not needed by most flyers. I have hundreds and hundreds of flights in the Fenix, and other aircraft, without one CTD. I also fly every flight for a VA, and if time is an issue, I just limit the flight to around one hour in length. FSi panel is great, if you just want to shoot a few approaches, and only have around 10-15 minutes to do it.

What you are saying is like "most of us have been driving for many years without a single accident, so we don't need seat belts".

MSFS is mostly stable for me, better than FSX and P3D in my experience. However, CTD still happened randomly the other day when I departed DCA, though it was the first one in many months. If I'm doing a long flight the ability to autosave and reload makes CTDs far less infuriating when they do happen. 5 minutes later I'll be back where I left off.

The topic is not about whether MSFS or any other sim is stable or not..

The topic is that a payware top end airline like fenix should provide full panel save state (just like we expect a top class EFB from PMDG because it has become the norm these days).. and when you do long hauls you will understand the pain of losing a flight after 4 to 5 hours, due to whatever reason.. doesn't have to be sim crash.. many times i've had to save a flight because electricity went kaput or some other real world interruption..

Just to be sure we're all on the same page, that save function on long flights might not be so useful for MSFS as it was in other sims because there is no access to historical weather. Saving a flight is fine, but if you start it up again a day or two later, the weather might be completely different. This isn't a problem if one wants to use a weather preset, but it's going to cause some problems for those flying with real weather.

First of all: you don't die from a CTD

second: due to the good stability, the save / load feature is not high priority

Your analogy makes no sense at all.

I have saved states for all of my PMDG airliners in P3Dv4 that I use for every flight. Without them, I would have to change everything every single time, rather than immediately contacting ATC for pushback as soon as the scenario is loaded.
