LOD Distances Textures Downgrade in Latest Beta

Recommended Posts

It's the way it's been for pretty much ever.  It's possible they made it more noticeable for performance reasons but it's always looked bad.  I made a comparison post a month ago or so lemme see if I can find it

I couldn't find the post but here's the pics

If you zoom way out you can't really tell.... but zoomed in it's clearly an issue

External stuff always looks worse in flight simulators at higher zoom levels. Just look at the post apocalyptic buildings in the background.

The issue isnt about zoom level,,, So what Ryan is trying to demonstrate is not the issue here....

Try and have a normal zoom level and use drone slowly go upwards while looking down at the airport, then you will notice a transit level where everything looks blurry and it gets better again after getting higher...

It has been worse before, in one of the SU it got slightly better, but is still there....

Asobo has ruined the simulator.

Countless topics on their forums and they don't care .

I remember MSFS ground textures were crisp and sharp back when released.

Even village buildings could be identified.

Could you post a screenshot of said crisp textures? I'm curious

What you have added has been mentioned multiple times already so why dig up a 6 months old thread ?

I've definitely noticed a downgrade in ground textures at a distance since the sim first came out. I operate the sim with basically the settings it ships with. I found that It looked great with good performance, so i decided not to change anything. Over the last few updates, the sim has been looking progressively worse with the same settings. With my tinfoil hat on, I might say they are decreasing the visual quality of FS2020 to make FS2024 look that little bit better.

Wasn't the whole thing hashed up a bit to accomodate the Xbox release? Or that's what conspiracy theorists might say. I always wanted the pre-alpha night lights back.  Very early on they went to these weird sepia blotches out in the distance that are so bad I hate flying at night.  Others dont seem phased by it though.

The one major difference I've noticed recently is bad weather and turbulence just don't seem as noticeable any more.  I haven't seen lightning in months. I haven't been bumped around.  Guess I've just been flying in the wrong places?

Even with tlod 400 you will get the issue.....

So sadly true--the difference in visuals between TLOD of 200 and 400 is paltry at best.

All pre - July 2021 SU5.

Manhattan by night on release, August 2020.

A bit tragic what we lost, imo.

i am sorry i have not been following this, so what you guys are maybe saying is that MSFS has been trimmed to accommodate console players  at the expense of PC visuals , is that right ?

I am CPU limited and keep my LOD and TLOD at around 115-120. In truth, I can't see much of a difference when cranking them up higher but the performance tanks for me.

I also don't zoom in as zooming into scenery in most simulators mean its going to look kind of crummy.

I'd rather have that than the sim loading everything around me and causing performance issues. Though.... the object "popping" in on final is really annoying.

Yes it's a fact, the clouds pixelation since SU5 is a perfect example of a graphical regression to accommodate the Xbox release. Instead of maintaining the simulation to work on PC *with* Xbox they worked on PC *AND* Xbox.

The LODs have basically been a mess since the start to be fair, the "tree line/circle" around the plane was particularly bad following one Sim Update (can't recall which, maybe SU5 also).

MS/Asobo/Jorg of course deny and shy away from the subject during Q&As, but the evidence post SU5 release was/is there for all to see.
