DC-6 Autopilot Fixed?

Recommended Posts

I'm flying to Memphis in the PMDG DC-6B after updating it earlier today.

I'm not seeing any improvement to the autopilot. It seems to be exactly like it was before.

Anyone else tried the update? To me, it still doesn't work like it did in P3D and when first released to MSFS. Or, is it working and I'm misremembering how it worked before?

Once Gyropilot is switched on and the clutch (Autopilot) engaged, I can no long influence the airspeed with the trim wheel. Switching on Altitude hold kind of works, but not like it did. Although this is hard to judge since you can't change pitch/VS once the prior switch (GP) is switched. It could be it now accurately models the real aircraft and the previous iteration was wrong, but I doubt that.

It seems fine to me? Just the same except that the new WT GNS works.

Are you attempting to use the elevator trim wheel to control your pitch, or the AP "glide wheel" on the console?

I'm not having any issues with the AP functionality. Also check any old liveries that might interfere.

I've heard of some people having issues where it just won't track VOR's or ILS if you're using the double Bendix option instead of the GPS.  Supposedly toggling to the GPS option and back fixes it for the duration of that flight.

Exactly, so i am wondering if that issue had been fixed?

I'm in the middle of a flight and done some experiments:

LOC mode / CDI on GPS: AP follows the GPS course

LOC mode / CDI on VLOC: AP follows the VOR/ILS course

Switch the CDI source from one to the other and it DOESN'T track the new source. Workaround seems to be switching it temporarily into gyropilot (heading) mode.

Haven't tried an ILS approach yet.

2 flights with the new DC6 version and I found it a total mess, I have to switch on the GNS and back if I want to fly with Bendix old radios, also the ILS has problems.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2020 (she's here, but...).
