Who is looking forward to the New Zealand update?..

Yes, I don't know how many times it has been mentioned, but code and scenery are different teams.
The New Zealand update doesn't work against any bug fixing or new features being developed.  I just don't understand why people don't get this.

Well, i didn't know that, maybe because i don't go to sleep and wake up with MSFS in my mind. I don't read every topic/article concerning MSFS, i have some other stuff to do to.
Still seems the eye-candy group gets all the resources and the code group the left-overs (and the not so talented programmers).

I'm excited about the NZ update for one reason,   NZA Simulations created several of the new airports for Asobo.   NZA's products are extremely nice.

No problem.  You just seem a little bit negative about it.

We are all impatient about the technical fixes needed and additional features that need filling in (like the ATC and AI Traffic you mention), but I don't think they will work any quicker by sending them negativity when they are trying to do good things.

By the way, the 'eye-candy' group consists of people like Orbx, NZA, and even Bing maps, who have no input on the technical side of things.  So you can see that stopping them working won't achieve what we want on the feature list.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Eye candy is 'easier' to make than finding and fixing a troublesome coding bug.
Also (and unfortunately), new eye candy is more likely to gain new / retain current flight simmers interest than bug fixing.

So there may well be more resources thrown at new content (e.g. buying content from Orbx, NZA, Gaya Sim, iniBuilds). However, fixing issues isn't as 'simple' as creating a new airport scenery or a new terrain mesh.
Frustrating, but true.

That’s not how that works.

I enjoy flying in NZ.

However, since I own the NZ Mesh by OrbX and have a ton of freeware addons for NZ, I am unsure of what the World Update can do for me that I don't already have.

I shall find out soon enough.

What resolution is the ORBX mesh?

Key Features

  • High-resolution 10m DEM data

Here's the preview thread over on Orbx's forums with some good default vs. Orbx NZ mesh comparison gifs:

It's nice, but I really wish we could get 5m (or optionally more detailed) mesh.
While 10m mesh is better than MSFS default in most locations, 5m is where I really start noticing significant improvements in the less obvious parts of terrain, such as foothills rather than mountain peaks.

e.g. Here is Island Creations' Gran Canaria product with a 4m mesh:

Just got an email from NZA,

Hi ,

Along with NZA Simulations - NZCH Christchurch coming on the 23rd, NZA Simulations is proud to be partnered with Microsoft to bring four airports as part of World Update XII New Zealand.

The NZA sceneries included in World Update XII are:

·     NZQE Gorge River

·     NZRO Rotorua

·     NZTL Tekapo

·     NZWS Westport

Westport, Rotorua and Tekapo have previously been part of the wider NZA Simulations and Sergio Del Rosso Freeware offerings. These new versions included in the World Update XII have been built from the ground up, building off the experiences we have learnt from many of our payware releases.

It is essential for the best experience of the world update that you delete the following from your community folder:

·     nzasimulations-airport-nzro-rotorua

·     nzasimulations-airport-nzws-westport

·     sdr-tekapo

Our Westport and Rotorua website product pages will be updated following the World Update to contain two new World Update Expansion Addons that will add more NZA Simulations goodness that could not be included in the World Update including animated people, accurate GSE and more.

If you have issues check our help page, ask for help on our Discord server or send us an email. Thank you for choosing NZA Simulations.

As an Aussie not really. I'll fly into Auckland or Queenstown every once in awhile when I'm bored for something different. It's just a place full of sheep and weird accents.

Plus fantastic scenery, ranging from the snow-capped Southern Alps to vast pristine lakes to semitropical forests; a stable working democracy; one of the highest literacy rates in the world; and probably the most decent folks on the planet. And -- no disrespect to Australia -- the interior of New Zealand is mostly green and verdant, not red and dry!

(From a U.S. citizen who knows the country well).

Looking forward to them adding Quinton Lodge.  See who can be the first to land a Concorde there.

Ah, I only ask, because the updated elevation coming with the world update is also 10m for most of of the country.

10m is nice, as the Orbx comparison gifs show. It will be a decent improvement for heavy iron, light jet and turboprop GA flyers.

The point to the rest of my earlier post is that for low and slow flyers (bug smashers, helis, gliders, etc.), 5m is where mesh gets significantly better, IMO.

The elevation update for France was great, not sure what the resolution was, but it was good enough to make out roads on the sides of hills/mountains, it even included overseas territories like St Pierre and Miquelon.

AI traffic to name just one

Fly daily, use FSLTL, and find AI traffic is vastly better than ever.  I really appreciate MSFS ATC asking the bloke in front of me to kindly go around and this always happens now and never did previously.  ATC calls out AI traffic livery perfectly every time, planes stopped their heinous spinning around on the taxiways.  Don't get this comment, at all.
