I fully understand that sites have to be financed by ads and I'm happy to deactivate my blocker for them

I do agree . Financing one's site by advertisements and possibly making money out of it, is legitimate and should I say, healthy. But then one needs to be cautious before throwing stones  at a bigger competitor. Specially fake arguments.

Courts in any democracy prove you wrong everyday, Andy

The fact that a court is necessary to adjudicate rights means they aren't rights but rather privileges granted by an authority. If the court decides you aren't entitled to that "right" then it isn't a right, right?

I will obviously not respond to that. Contrary to Avsim ToS about politicking.

While Flightsim.com's new library is better than most other flight sim file hosting sites, it's still not as well-designed nor as user-friendly as flightsim.to.

It's interesting to see the pushback against content creators' legitimate concerns by users who feel their convenience from  using fs.to is more important.

Anyway, I see that fs.com is capitalising on the situation, updating their file manager to automated uploads and expressly mentioning content creators' control over their work.

You are so right.  At least with my limited budget my simulator would be empty without all the freeware creators and i did already download from quite a few different places. And if Flightsim.com, as you say, and avsim and all the others see this as an opportunity to improve then maybe in the end this current mess is better for us users.

Yeah, all the other sites make it hard to find stuff, and I think flightsim.com has no liveries listed. Someone like TiAir, who pulled all his liveries off I don't know what is going to happen. Is he big enough to host them on his own? Maybe, and I don't mind going to a prolific devs site to look for new stuff.

At least in FBW's case, I can see them building a livery hosting/installer into their launcher. The paid devs for legal reasons I can see them staying away from it.

Right now, everyone is losing. A lot of good freeware is just gone. I did go a little nuts this weekend downloading stuff I may not use just in case the dev leaves.

Agree with that.

Yeah, I find much of this to be overblown. Not sure who still is blowing this out of proportion as the internet and misinformation make it difficult. Still trying to find proof of FSTO terminating freeware/payware devs or reuploading content without their permission. The Terms Of Service have not changed for over a year and the outrage happens all of a sudden? FSTO seems pretty adamant that they have not changed much regarding their ToS but the internet enthusiasts say otherwise. Who is more correct? And if so, how do we resolve this? FSTO is amazing for hosting so much content since the sim started. 49,000 forms of content, half a million downloads? That's a lot. I don't want to lose flightsim.to as a source of testing freeware (which I love doing) and I certainly don't want to lose being able to test stuff from developers. Everyone is losing, as you say.

I just tested Flightsim.com

Upload was easy. When I want to remove my file, I just see a "HIDE" option. However this made my file instantly invisible and the direct link doesn't also work any more.

I asked via the contact form what "HIDE" exactly means and where I can find the Terms of Service (as I'm not able to find any) and got that answer:

" I told you it works great. No need for more tests
Just upload the real thing
Thanks ..."

So, indeed ... no need for more tests on my side 😉

Did Flightsim.to directly terminate GotFriends? That's insane, if true. They make some of the best...if not THE best freeware and payware planes for GA.

To answer your question in short, Yes, we were directly terminated by Flightsim.to, their decision.

Long Story:

On February 19th, we issued a statement that we would be removing our freeware from Flightsim.to in response to them not changing their deletion policy. We've been silently battling it out with them for a few months in regards to this policy. So when this "boycott" issue got loud, we decided to take advantage of the extra visibility and take some action.

We only wanted Flightsim.to to change their deletion policy, we directly emailed them prior to releasing our public statement. After the statement, we removed our freeware. We did not remove any payware. Our plan was to only remove freeware because our vendor agreement for our payware was not affected.

Sometime throughout the night, news of Got Friends leaving flightsim.to spread like wild fire on Reddit, Forums, Discord, Etc.

When I woke up, first thing I did was check my Got Friends Support Email. I saw a Termination Notice from Flightsim.to., stating that we were being terminated as partners and we would not be allowed to sell anymore. Due to a confidentiality clause, I can't list the exact legal reasons for their decision in terminating us. I can simply share one statement on their behalf:

"I (Flightsim.to) hereby grant you permission to disclose this information to your customers as required. This grant allows you to share that the agreement was terminated due to the permanent disturbance of trust between our companies."

Well, that is pretty immature and ridiculous of them to do that. Thank you for clarifying this as it is/was difficult to get this information first hand from anyone experiencing this.

That's all I have to say. I am extremely saddened and distraught by their decision to terminate us. However, that is their decision.

All we wanted was some change. After our termination, they started re-working their deletion policy. I would like to believe that Got Friends was the cause for that. Maybe we did stand up for the community and make a change? Idk...

Either way, we are moving forward and have other exciting news in the near future. Now that we aren't exclusive to Flightsim.to, our door opens up to other platforms.

Our biggest impact from this is our Freeware being inaccessible at the moment. We are expanding our website currently and I should have them back up in under a week.

Aside from that, we have a VERY strong community who is dedicated to our products, our values, our business and our "Friendship". That's all we ask for, no matter the bumps in the road.

Their loss. No offense, I won't be leaving FSTO in the dust as I do want them to stay around. As for GotFriends, we look forward to what you have to offer. Have all of your freeware and one of your payware but was going to get the mini 500 until everything was removed. Look foward to getting it soon.

Seem to remember Captain Scam trying to take ownership of other people's work, it didn't go well for them either.

Where does this leave users that purchased stuff from developers that FSTO has kicked out?
