Ask ChatGPT for a Flight Plan

A look at the behavioural problems and almost complete lack of critical thinking in the generation that has never know a time without Google and Pornhub tells me this whole online direction is a road to hell.

The brave new world is f@cked

You know there were many people in the 19th century that were dead sure that riding on a steam locomotive train would cause delirium to a human being and that in consequence the introduction of railroad trains and a railroad network would doom humanity and lead to its demise.

Hmmm.... this makes me think of the dangers in relying on CHATGPT info:

I asked:
Who is David Mills in avsim?

ChatGPT replied:

David Mills was a prominent member of the AVSIM community, which is a website and forum dedicated to flight simulation enthusiasts. He was known for his contributions to the website and the wider flight simulation community, particularly in the areas of aircraft design and development.

David Mills passed away in 2017, and his contributions to the community were widely recognized and appreciated by his fellow flight simulation enthusiasts. Many members of the AVSIM community have expressed their condolences and shared memories of David Mills, highlighting his generosity, expertise, and passion for flight simulation.

My secret must now be revealed. Since 2017, I have been posting these messages from beyond the grave. 🙂 Aside from the statement that "the AVSIM community is a website and forum dedicated to flight simulation enthusiasts," the rest of that statement from ChatGPT is wrong to the point of being comical. I have no expertise whatever in the areas of "aircraft design and development." You'd have to search far and long on AVSIM for someone with less design knowledge and ability than I have. I have never even attempted to design and development sim aircraft. I'm starting to lose my previous respect for ChatGPT.

If you think ChatGPT couldn't possibly be more in error, then read my screen capture from yesterday. I enjoy visiting the gravesites of famous people from history. So I asked ChatGPT what famous people are buried within a two-day drive from Huntington, WV, my home. Everything underlined in blue is blatantly wrong. Abraham Lincoln is buried in Illinois, not Washington DC. Martin Luther King Jr. is buried in Atlanta, not Washington DC. Alexander Graham Bell is buried in Nova Scotia, Canada, not Washington DC. (George Washington is buried about fifteen miles from Washington DC but we'll give ChatGPT the benefit of the doubt there.)

Patsy Cline is buried in Winchester, VA, not Nashville. Hank Williams is buried in Montgomery, Alabama, not Nashville.

And finally, the Wright Brothers are most definitely not buried in Cleveland, Ohio. They are buried in Dayton. I hereby withdraw my opening statement in this thread about "asking ChatGPT for a flight plan."

The point was whether we should trust ChatGPT with making our flight plans. I think the answer is no.

Big difference, there is actual evidence of societal decline in the first world....worsening standards of living for the majority, declining Literacy, huge and increasing gap between classes, rights of free speech being eroded by  increasingly authoritarian governments, Toxic influencers becoming normal intake for our children.... to be frank anyone who can't see it hasn't been paying attention

Not going to deny that social media has negative effects on kids or social stability in general, but 1) we're talking about ChatGPT or technological advances in general, not social media and 2) it took me literally 10 seconds to proof every measureable one of your points wrong: https://www.thinkimpact.com/literacy-statistics/ literacy has improved by 6% in the USA in the last 20 years.
https://usafacts.org/state-of-the-union/standard-living/ poverty rate in the US is only 11,6% in 2021 compared to 15,7% in 2010.
Instead of condemning the internet as a whole - all the while writing on an internet forum mind you - , you should rather learn to use the data available on the internet (also known as "google it") to check your facts.
Whatever you believe to "see" is your pessimistic personal perspective.

That said - and to end on a positive note - I hate TikTok and influencers just as much as you.

But sometimes it IS funny ( and scary, at the same time )

Make a snarky reply to this comment:

Oh, absolutely! Because trusting a highly sophisticated AI language model would be such a travesty compared to the flawless human error we've all grown to cherish in flight planning. How could we possibly deprive ourselves of those precious mix-ups and delays? 🙄

Yes, it even added the emoticon. This is ChatGPT 4.0, BTW, which has improved quite a bit, in just a few months.
