Vista 64 bit vs Vista 32 bit and FSX

Recommended Posts

recently migrated over to 64 bit Vista (a few days ago) and at same time treated myself to a 150 gig Raptor.well ... my blurries seem to have completely gone (only from 2 evenings of testing) and the default scenery now looks far more detailed than it ever did - also getting better performance. Is Vista 64 bit better than 32 bit if you have the right hardware (ie Dual-core, decent graphics card etc ?)I'd performed multiple re-installations of FSX in 32 bit - so its not the clean install thats done it.any ideas ?Mark.

Buck,What version of Direct X is your system running?(From the cmd line, run: dxdiag). It's probably DX9-L, a slightly newer version that some have reported provides improved graphics display in FSX (although I doubt this.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Vista ships with DirectX 10.Regards,Jim KarnNOTHING is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

You may well find thta your lack of blurries is down to your choice of aircraft; less taxing defaults allow for more resources to be spread elsewhere...If I choose the Cessna or one of the helicopters, I suffer less blurries than if I use some 'heavier' addons. Also, you may find that your new Raptor h/d is getting textures faster than your older drive, so that too could be helping.

I'd love to say that your performance improvements were due to the 64-bit OS, but you also mentioned that you added in the Raptor drive...The faster drive will likely seek out and load your textures faster than a 7200RPM drive, so you may be seeing benefits due to that. :)
