FSX slow to load all of a sudden

Recommended Posts

Guest chesh253

HiAlmost the same problem, came on suddenly (in the last 2 weeks)- No changes to FSX - but usual Vista 64 updates - Not suffering the lag when starting a flight - frame rates of 26 (locked) - drops to 18 with AI traffic at 75% (lots of PAI planes and flight plans) Going to try your suggestion of disabling the prefetch in fsx.cfgMikeGigabyte GA-M59SLI-S5AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3.0GHz)NVIDIA GEFORCE 8800 GTS 320MB PCIE - (2 SLI)Seagate 500GB SATAII HD 7200rpm 16MB4GB DDR2 PC2-5300Vista 64 Home Premium

I've had a similar thing happen. FSX used to load in around 30 secs from double-clicking the icon, but now for no reason it takes 2-3 mins. DisablePreload setting doesn't seem to make a difference. It's like an MS update caused FSX to load slowly... Big Brother tactics?Vox

Same thing happened to me as well. FS won't even load at all. It stayed at around 35% for ages until I found out that it was Nero 7 that was somehow affecting it. Once that was deleted all is good again. This fixed it for me but may not be the caes for everyone else.Cheers

I also have Nero 7 and my FSX also takes like 3 minutes to load, but i wonder what can Nero 7 possibly have to do whith that. Maybe i'll try to uninstall it just in case...

Actually, I think I may have found my culprit... a single SimObjects line-entry in the FSX.CFG that was added by MyTrafficX when I installed it a couple of weeks ago. If I remove it, then initial load times are back to normal.Vox

I too have noticed a large increase in FSX load times. All phases, even airplane selection etc. Now in my case I think it started after loading the 15 GB MegaScenery, Southern California scenery. I suspect that this huge scenery addition effects FSX start up times, even when the airport chosen is outside of the new scenery. Anyone else seen this?Jim

JimIt's a known FSX phenomena that large photoscenery add-ons like the one you're referring to will slow down the load time from the 'Free Flight' screen to actually sitting on the tarmac. Just disable the entries in the 'Scenery' section and you can confirm this for yourself. It's also a known 'bug' that FSX loads textures from areas of the world even when you're not flying in that area. Hopefully, SP2 will do something about this problem.Vox

Good suggestions kiwimail and Vox-tm,I regularly, about every other week, save my CFG file to a folder outside of FSX.I compared the last saved CFG to the current one in use. In the current one I found these lines had been added to it:SOUND_FADER1=0.280000SOUND_FADER2=0.500000SOUND_FADER3=0.500000SOUND_FADER4=1.000000AmbientUIMusic=FSX01VoiceVolume=2.000000Also, something strange, although I don

GeorgeDecided to get the stopwatch out and do some times -I started with FSX & SP1 (it sits in its own physical drive sharing with FS9) as I have had it set for quite some time the only changes I feel, have been other other apps/games loaded on the box, not FSX related plus the good ole regular Vista 64 updates.I should point out that my normal Frame rate with the set up is locked to 26 and most of the time I can maintain 22-26fps - dropping to 17-18 at very busy airports - EGLL, KJFK etcSo - Two sets of timings taking to check the load times1. From clicking on the "Icon" in the games folder to the "select flight" screenThen at this point I selected the "Baron" / "EGGW Parking slot 1" / Time "12:00" / Weather "Default Fair" and then timed 2. From clicking on "Fly now" to getting on "the stand ready to go"The initial load times where :-1. 1min 21secs 2. 3mins 45secsSome would say not too long, but it's still a fair time to wait around, so I started changing/removing a few things Reduced all Airline AI traffic to 5% 1. 1min 21secs 2. 2mins 17secsReduced all GA AI traffic to 5% 1. 1min 21secs 2. 1mins 31secsSo it looks like AI traffic slowing the load down, just out of interest I then removed all add-on scenery (just a couple of custom airports and about 20 custom AFCADS) - Made no difference at allRemoved all AI bgl traffic files from World/Scenery (except default)1. 1min 20secs 2. 1mins 15secsRemoved all AI aircraft (166Gb) from Simobjects Aircraft1. 0min 27 secs 2. 0min 45 secsThat makes for some very boring airspace , but proves it's all to do with AI traffic files and AI Aircraft for me!Guess I'll put it back in stages and find a happy balance somewhere , again out of interest at this point I set the framerate lock to Unlimited and got 60fps - put Airline to 50% GA Aircraft to 50% - Vehicle traffic / Ships / Lesuire boats to 50% - and still saw 45fps.Think I'll add the AI back, bit by bit and try to find a good balance - The funny thing is the fps have never suffered in all of this neither have I suffered serious stutters etc - just the load times seem to have lengthened while no changes/additions were made to FSXI would like to try a complete re-install but the activation limitation puts me off doing it to often (done it twice already) any one done 3 or 4 times on the same the box.MikeGigabyte GA-M59SLI-S5AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3.0GHz)NVIDIA GEFORCE 8800 GTS 320MB PCIE - (2 SLI)Seagate 500GB SATAII HD 7200rpm 16MB (2 off)4GB DDR2 PC2-5300Vista 64 Home premium

I would like to try a complete re-install but the activation limitation puts me off doing it to often (done it twice already) any one done 3 or 4 times on the same the box.----I have reinstalled FSX many times for various reasons and never had an issue with the activation limitation, although i have heard others have.I too have had issues with a fast loading sim all the sudden loading slow and my culprit is also MyTrafficX, which was just uninstalled right before this post was typed up. But what i dont see is a prefetch line in the MAIN section of my cfg file. What is it called exactly?
