April 3, 20233 yr I’m planning to get this new monitor " 32" G5 Odyssey Gaming Monitor With 1000R Curved Screen( 165Hz HDR AMD FreeSync (2020) " I have a GTX 1080 ti card and I’m wondering if this would be a good match together for msfs 2020 ? CPU intel I7 960 and 32 Gig MEM If not, which monitor would you suggest for 144Hz and 165 Hz? Edited April 4, 20233 yr by Ray Proudfoot Converted to standard text.
April 3, 20233 yr Ooof you're running a i7 960? That's ancient hehe. I had a 1080 ti driving a 27" 1440p 144hz and it wasn't great. And that was with my 4790K. You might be able to MSFS but I'd highly recommend sticking with 1080P with that CPU and gpu. I'm actually not even sure if MSFS will run on that dinosaur hehe | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

That's a rip off! You seriously have an i7 960? That's like 14 years old. Oooooh ok hehe that sounds a lot nicer. I basically have a similar monitor. You'll be okay at 1440p with the 1080 ti with the 8700K. I wouldn't go 4k though until you get a newer video card. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
April 3, 20233 yr Author 1440p or 144hz, if there are differences. I need HDR as it is my main monitor for movies and internet.

April 3, 20233 yr Author Man I should think before I asked!!!! Should have know that!! I told you I'm old!!! Now is time to pick the right 32" monitor!! Thanks for your time!! Edited April 3, 20233 yr by rolly
April 3, 20233 yr Rolly -- I used to run that exact combo (8700K + 1080ti) and it was top-end stuff at the end of 2017. It was great for 1080p and 1440p. At 4K it was...passable. I could run 4K at 30fps mostly, but that was about it, no 40 fps at 4K on the ground with any kind of demanding scenery. I still run a BenQ 32" monitor. The one I have has several refresh rates it can operate at: 29 hz, 30hz, 50hz and 60hz. Today you're probably better off going for a 144hz screen. My monitor is becoming a relic of flight sim times past... Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
April 3, 20233 yr Author It's hard to decide which one!! There are so many 144Hz monitor out there!! Curved; flat; and other specs. I don't change my stuff until it dies, so when I buy new stuff I want the best possible in the medium price range as it will be a long time before I buy another one!! I only have the flight sim on this system and I don't play nothing else. So I want everything to be the best for the flight sim. By the way, anybody know how to stop the double line in here???

You have a CPU very similar to mine and the same GPU. Whilst I don’t use MSFS I can easily achieve 30fps at most airports in P3D v5 in 4K using a BenQ UHD monitor. It has a native 30Hz capability plus 50 and 60 as @Mace says. I remain happy with mine as it’s a high quality monitor. I’m not sure why you’re looking for a 144Hz monitor since it’s unlikely you’ll ever get 144fps with your current hardware. You need to beef up your GPU and then depending on which one you go for look at a suitable monitor. For a 3000 or 4000 series Nvidia card 4K should be achievable with suitable settings in MSFS. Monitors like that are more suited to fast moving games rather than the more sedate flight sims. Ray (Cheshire, England). April 4, 20233 yr No real need for a 144 or 165hz monitor if your pc can't get frames up near those numbers. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
