Just as expected 7800x3d is 1-2% within the 7900x3d. I choose the 7900x3d because I wanted the extra cores for other tasks. If you just want a pure gaming chip yea 7800x3d is the way to go. 7900 or 7950x3d for the gaming+ upgraded productivity.

Interesting here is that according to this review the 7950X3D is still the best choice for MSFS if you want absolute top performance, no matter what the cost. If you spend the money on a 4090 than the extra $ for the 7950X3D seems not that much.
Also, the 7900X3D in most reviews is not the best choice for gaming but for MSFS it outperforms the 7800X3D (albeit with a tiny margin) despite having fewer 3D cores.

the perf increase from the 5900x to 7900x3d was really amazing.

Looking at your specs, is your 13900k not performing as you hoped? Also the reviews above are in 1080 and 1440. From what I have seen, things are much closer when running 4K. I have a similar system and I’m happy with how 2020 is performing at 4K. Tech changes too fast to try and keep up.

It's a beast. It's kicking word not allowed. But it's obviously outclassed by these new x3d processors.

I have a 7950x3d on order but no estimate of when it might arrive.

Wondering if I should consider the 7900x3d.

That said the 7800x3d numbers look interesting.

Did you upgrade to the 7900X3D? Can you say what the most noticable improvement is? Is it overal fluency or just higher framerates or can you sustain better fps with lots of AI?
Did your RTX3080 perform better with the new CPU?

It doesn’t get crazy when you run it within CPU limits and not by the motherboard limits. Mine runs around 40-55c and my watts hovers around 75.4w. So where is this space heater you’re referring to? Unless you’re running benchmark test, it doesn't even come close to heating a room, especially if all your doing is gaming or flightsim.

On a side note, I'm excited to see how the 7800x3D does. I almost went that route but decided to stick with intel. Congrats to those who get one and looking forward to your reports.

Could be a good time to buy soon as AMD cutting prices of the X3D CPUs to boost sales, as the market is in decline.
