it's been years still no long haul airliner

My guess is that most of the long haulers, start a flight on autopilot, then go shopping, or watch a couple of movies, or go to bed, set the sim to pause at top of descent, return to the PC 8 hours later and land. I just don't get it??

that's the whole thing with this hobby.  Sim missions can be customized to the preferences of the individual.  That's a great thing.

Any VA I have ever flown with, wouldn't let you do that.

Thanks for sharing that useful piece of information, Bob.

I flew Concorde from London Gatwick to Tenerife South this morning. It took 1hr 58m. Boeings and Airbus take 4h 20m.

Just a suggestion. The DVD Concorde is available for MSFS.

You're supposed to go to bed during a long haul flight.

Ron, I'm hard core. I go for the authentic long haul experience - deep vein thrombosis included.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

Two days ago I have watched this 2 hour long cockpit presentation of the FlyByWire A380.

I can 100% assure you - you are in for a treat 😉

100% Fenix-level quality and photorealistic visuals in such an INSANE amount of detail that never before was in the history of flight simulation, which means: just like the Fenix. And with insane amount of details I mean insane amount of details, that FlyByWire guy has demonstrated that even the stamp and the number on the head of the cockpit screws is readable when zooming close enough, and various things are moveable like the seats the armrest the feetrest the tables, some doors of cabinets with various clutter and fire extinguisher can be opened.

There are a few videos now available of the oncoming A380 (an I will no longer ask if the circuit breakers are simulated because there are none in this aircraft type *gg but I simply did not know how the A380 cockpit looks like before watching these videos.) He was zooming in at every angle, even under the main instrument board behind the rudder pedals and what I saw was entering a flight deck in-the-Matrix quality level.

The reality 100% reproduced. No shortcuts, no cheaping out or being too lazy to model this "unnecessary" detail and leave out that "unnecessary" detail, and bring on some word not allowed with PS3 visuals and declare it "but it´s FPS-FRIENDLY!!!" - no, it was as realistic as entering a flight deck in the Star Trek Holodeck or the Matrix, everything was carefully reproduced and everything you find in a real A380 will be there. From every angle, even if you decide to crawl behind the rudder pedals to look for a missing coin. And this is the way because we don´t need "FPS-friendly" when graphics cards with 40-80 Teraflops and 24 GB RAM have become cheap and affordeable again: The era of 100% photorealism has begun!

The holy grail of sim flying, the Fenix Airbus, will get a sister ship soon! This must be the best news for all who want to command the big ships 😉

If you have a strong heart and think you might be ready for what you are about to witness, enjoy:

I don´t know how good the FlyByWire team is when it comes to aircraft systems, but what I have seen on YouTube how they simulate the hydraulics, the droop, the weather vaning or whatever this is called when ailerons or rudder move in the wind or by gravity, the level fluctuations of hydraulics fluid during steep turns, the fluctuations of the hydraulic pump pressure, one can assume the FBW team is really good of reproducing authentic cockpit systems.

There will be only one last true challenge: Faithfully recreating the MCDU computers of the A350 and A380 because this fully digital touchscreen-type of MCDU in use for these two aircraft types has never been simulated authentic in any flight simulator. This will be some very difficult and hard work of coding and eat a huge amount of development time programming this beast.

Headwind Airbus A339

Agreed. And the 339 is even based on the FBW 320, so already excellent and yet getting better with every update

There’s a few upvotes here for the Salty 747 and HD 787. Honestly, neither is very good. I’ve been trying to fly them, but the quality difference between these and the PMDG 737 is pretty huge.

We need a real Boeing long-hauler.

increasing the sim rate during cruise is a very cost-effective and eco-friendly sin.

"Sin".  😂. I doubt you'll ever find anyone who has done any kind of transport flying for real who doesn't think time acceleration is one of the greatest features of a home simulator.

I'm with you.  I use it on a 45 minute flight.  If I can skip any of the boring parts, why wouldn't I?

No offense, but the "holy grail" of sim flying can't even do a V1 cut right now (one of the most basic things you'd try with any airliner I would think), the engine modeling is so wonky.

I'm not bashing the plane; every dev has their challenges and there aren't really any exceptions to that, and I know they're in the process of fixing it.  I'm just pointing out that for many of us, there are far more important aspects to a simulation than visuals.  The basics need to be there long before we're interested in arcane visual detail.  😉

Oh for crying out loud. ITS A GAME. A game. It's not a level D simulator, it's not FAA certified, it's just a game - like World of Warcraft, like Star Wars The Old Republic, like Pac Man - A game. And in that game, Asobo, MS, and yes FENIX have given us things that we could only dream about 3 years ago, but never mind that - their wonky airplane can't do a V1 cut right now - what a pile of garbage huh?

I tell you. If you people won a million dollars in cash you'd complain that the picture of Benjamin Franklin on the $100 bill is inaccurate because everyone knows he had a mole above his right eye and it is not depicted properly on the money.

Wow. V1 cut (SMDH). I think the BIGGEST mistake was naming it "Flight Simulator". If it was named "Flight Game" then people would just have fun. You know? Fun?

Er?

I guess you're one who prizes the arcane visual details over accuracy.  I mean, that's cool.  I never said it wasn't.  I just pointed out that it's only one perspective, and many simmers fall into the opposite camp.  I'm not sure why that seemingly offended you.
