April 13, 20233 yr The meteoblue-based weather is pretty amazing. For those of you with a decent airliner, try a Qantas flight out of Port Hedland (YPPD) at a heading of 60-ish degrees. This will take you directly into the eye of a Category 5 cyclone. The Meteoblue app on iOS is also pretty cool, try the wind model page for an excellent visual representation of cyclonic winds. April 13, 20233 yr Author Heading through the clouds, looking for the eye... Looks like we found it! And what it looks like from the edge of space - eye down the bottom, you can also see the furthest extent of the cyclone in the distance. Looks cool on the world map right now as well. For anyone who wants to find this - Cyclone Isla is about to make landfall just north of YPDO Pardoo Airport. Let's check the weather before taking off at YPDO Pardoo airport: OK, the meteorologists are only predicting an 80% chance of rain (lol), so maybe it's an OK day for flying a C152. What's the wind speed - oh, 289 kph gusts might make takeoff a little interesting. Edit: I actually just tried a JPL Cessna 152 flight out of YPDO in VR, interesting experience, did a short flight, was planning on a longer flight. Edit: YPDO weather station now non-functioning. I'm pretty sure I know why!
