Meigs field update...

Recommended Posts

Yeah it is too bad. I've always wanted to go visit Meigs. The rest of my family was able to visit but I had to work the week that they took the vacation. So sad missing seeing it in action.

That's good, but still I feel like Daley got away with one.The majority of people wanted it to stay open. What was Daley's big beef against Meigs anyway? Did he want to use the valuable lakefront real estate for a high tax-paying development? If so, that's kind of like the iminent domain issue...RhettAMD 3700+, eVGA 7800GT 256, ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, etc. etc.

Daley lived only a few blocks from the airport and he hated the noise. Rumor has it he washed out of pilot school earlier in life and has a grudge against pilots in general, but I kinda doubt that.

Daley should be charged with fraud, misapproapriation of funds, and anything else they could think of. He must have some friends in high places to keep him out of jail. Hopefully the taxpayers will boot him out in the comming election.Dave FisherCYYZP4 Prescott 3.2e 478p 800mhz 1mg CPUP4P800SE Asus Motherboard2.5 gig PC3200 DDR RAM 400MHZGeforce Ti 4200/128Maxtor 80 Gig ATA 133 HD x2WDC WD800 80 Gig HDhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpghttp://fs2crew.com/linepilot.jpghttp://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg

"The City of Chicago closed Meigs Field in a midnight demolition raid on the night of March 30-31, 2003. At the time, Mayor Daley said it was because of an "emergency" due to unnamed "terrorist threats." The claim of an "emergency" was necessary in order to use a loophole in the Federal Aviation Regulations that allows an unannounced airport closure in case of an emergency."That's rich....-Bryan

The Daley machine has run Chicago for years. It won't change soon and probably never will. Some call him "Emperor Daley" here. Even if a Daley isn't directly in charge, some subordinate of theirs will be. They run everything. As far as Meigs, he wanted it gone for years, and now it's gone forever. No amounts of fines or court action will change that. He got what he wanted. It may have been more expensive than he wanted, but that hardly matters. The taxpayers of Chicago will be reimbursing him for that. The only thing he didn't get was his riverboat casino dock, and I'm sure they'll have it within the next 10 years. It's sad and a bit depressing, but that's just how politics work in Chicago. People who start asking the wrong questions or saying the wrong things have a nasty habit of ending up dead in the lake. It's been that way since the days of Al Capone.
