What is your "go to" flight plan and why?

Featured Replies

LJPZ to LJBL (or LJLJ) when I don't have much time. Only 100km or so.

Aircraft: Cessna 414W or 310R or Beechcraft 18 or DC-3

Why? Takes me from the seaside to the Alps, even default scenery looks great (except airports) and I can fly by my house in MSFS. Never enjoyed low and slow as much as I do nowadays. And that's coming from a die-hard heavy iron flyer back in FS2004! Go figure... 😄

Mine is KENV-KSLC. KENV (Wendover Utah, USA) is the site of my flight test center, as it's out in the middle of nowhere. (Edwards AFB was already taken by some Air Force... 😁)

Whenever I get a new aircraft I'll have it delivered to Wendover and run test flights, culminating in the hop to KSLC. Very cool scenery!

With the whole world to explore I can't imagine having ANY "go-to" flight plan.  I use A Pilot's Life Chapter 2 and it tells me where I'll be flying next, scores my performance as a pilot for each flight, and lets me fly for myriad airlines using their RW routes and I never fly w/o it.  I'm currently a Captain flying for Delta.  When I tire of these routes will apply for work with a different airlines.  Prior companies I've worked for include Endeavor, Air France, United, Alaska, Southwest, Austrian, Aeromexico, Japan Airlines, Lufthansa, Frontier, Air New Zealand and Qantas.  I love being introduced to totally different areas of the world!  Right now am in mid-flight from KATL > KCHS in the CRJ700.

Can  you fly any aircraft you want, or do they assign an aircraft for each flight, and can you select the length of flight you want?

I would feel quite claustrophobic if I had a "go-to" flight plan!

Having been lucky enough in my RL career to fly to an inordinate number of destinations worldwide, both as a pilot and a passenger, now that I am retired, I enjoy visiting many of those places again - virtually this time - with fond memories, requiring detailed airport sceneries whenever there is one so that I may have the right feelings.

It is, incidentally, quite striking to notice how many simmers like to remain within their own country - even regional - boundaries, as if flying abroad was too much of a challenge. Lack of curiosity or interest perhaps?

That's the beauty of this sim, we have the world to play if we wish, and our courtyard if we so desire... Freedom at its best!

I try and fly a different area every day. I am just now landing in Australia, YPAD.

Yes you can, though they suggest/assign the correct aircraft for that route, however you can override that and use any aircraft you hold a license for.  When you create the next Schedule (about 8-10 or so routes per schedule) you can choose Short/Medium/Long, and any combination of those, as well as to-from hubs, random, or continuous.  You click and button and its randomizer creates the schedule, and if you don't like what you see just regenerate it until you find one you like.  When I first started using APL I was put off by lack of flexibility which is somewhat true initially, but as you accumulate $$ this opens you up to buying more aircraft licenses, allows you to "skip" routes in your schedule as desired for a fee, and also to allow you to do adhoc flights of any airlines, anywhere, for a fee.  So in fairly short order you have ample flexibility.  I'm about to apply to another airlines and there are 6 or so currently looking to hire, but I can apply to any airlines and the odds of being hired are affected by your Pilot Rating and Rank (Rating comes from your composite average score per flight, Rank depends on hours flown and other factors).

In case you haven't seen it yet, here is the scoring criteria used per flight and you can see I was dinged 1 point for failure to kill the land light off at 10K feet (I think it's anywhere between 9K and 11K qualifies):

How do you get a license for a specific aircraft, for instance i pretty much just fly the 737? Do I have to start with something else?

For me, a go-to-route is like playing my favorite album. I know it's from airports I like, and scenery I like. I don't hit a "go to" often, but after a tough day I might do one because I know I am going to enjoy it.

You get $5K out of the gate so can buy both a 737 license and Airbus license which is good for all varients in the class.  I'm not 100% sure on the 2nd license I forget what they cost and they vary by class but someone one their discord channel said could buy both immediately

ENBR-ENGM. I have flown in Norway (in FSX and P3D) for 'ages' and it's my "go to" country. I usually fly anywhere in western Europe to and from as much different locations as I can (specially in the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland) but once a week or so I just have to fly in Norway. ENVA, ENTO, ENZV, all those southern airports get a visit regularly but ENBR-ENGM (or ENGM-ENBR) stands out, also because I almost always do that flight when I have a new airplane or need to (beta) test something. In those cases it's convenient to fly a well known route. So it's sort of my default flight. And btw I flew in Norway that much in the past already because I've been there around 12 times during my youth so I have some fond memories of it. Great country.

KDCA to KBOS. With great scenery add-ons at both ends (DD’s DCA and Fly Tampa’s BOS), this is a great diversion when I have only an hour or so to spare. The Rwy. 1 departure from DCA gives you a taste of numerous DC landmarks.  The route will take you past KBWI, abeam KPHL, by the NYC Skyline, over KJFK, and then along Long Island Sound and the Connecticut coast.  The ILS 27 approach to Logan follows a gentle arc nearly to Provincetown and then a relaxing over-water entry to Logan. Enjoy it!

I love this thread and it has given me a great idea for a possible series on the channel.

Cheers guys

@Noel,

You talked me into it. I am on my first flight now on A Pilots LIfe.

KBUF - KBKL

Buffalo to Burke Lakefront (Cleveland, OH)

Plane: Any small GA (I'm loving the Sting lately, but recently getting into the WB-Sim 172)

Why?  I'm from Buffalo, and Burke reminds me a lot of Meigs and is close by.  Easy VFR flight (just follow the coast) or IFR if the weather is bad.

I love flying in real weather to see what weather is coming my way in an hour or two.
