On the whole i would say Orbx is superior , i have the V1 version from Orbx and it very good but a little outdated now, obviously the Uk2000 latest release is bang up to date and aim sure is fine , also be aware that Orbx is releasing a V2 to compete with UK 2000 very soon apparently, check out some simmers on youtube at these airports , see what you think "Huddison" recently released a video reviewing the latest uk2000 version

ORBX version upgrade fee of approximately USD $5.00 (excluding taxes) for a completely rebuilt airport for existing customers of EGLC for Microsoft Flight Simulator vs. UK2000 fee of approximately USD $ 17.60.

5 dollars ! Excellent

Right now, UK2000 is definitely the better one. The airport has changed a lot since OrbX did this. UK2000 is a current rendition. OrbX V2 might trump it if you want to wait for who knows how long….

Soon🙂

@RaptyrOne Okay, this is what I wanted to know. I can’t see ORBX V2 being significantly better even if released within the next few weeks. UK2000 has a good if not excellent reputation from a quick search.

@polosim Is that bait with the ominous “soon” to wait as a release is within a week or two?

It will be released when be ready, but for now looks pretty finished to me.

Orbx's EGLC has some of its own London landmarks that do add quite a lot to the experience. The bridge at the end of the runway is properly modelled, there are buildings on the opposite side of the water and a large factory.

At the same time I definitely dig UK2000's approach and their releases have improved big time from the early MSFS ones. If there was no alternative to Orbx I'd be very happy with one of theirs.

A lot of their airports are sub 200mb even for sizeable ones which is a very nice change from a piddly airfield being 2GB of gloopy PBR.

It's weird how few developers think of the storage of their punters.

If it's 5 dollars for a good upgrade then count me in. I love flying in/out of here and would love to have an upgrade.

UK2000 was a very good developer in the early FSX days.

My general impression is that they’re not quite top-tier by modern MSFS standards, and in fact were seeming a bit last-Gen by the end of the FSX era (with apologies to those still flying FSX!) Personally, I bought a lot of UK2000 stuff when FSX was in the middle of its product cycle, but moved on to other devs towards the end.

Id be interested to know if anyone who owns their more recent MSFS work has a further opinion on this, I see that Spud feels that their latest work has improved.

In general I have found that there are better alternatives to most of the UK2000 UK airports. For instance Bristol by Pilot Plus. The only two I've kept in the absence of any alternative are Luton and Jersey.

I've found both UK2000 and ORBX to be very good developers.  I'm sure you woyld be fine with either though whilst they both have their pros and cons, I too have heard that ORBX are working on a v2 version.

It's going to be interesting to see whether UK2000's or Orbx's v2 is going to be the better rendition. Generally, UK2000 has been very average in MSFS, however, Orbx hasn't set the world alight recently either. I'll just have to wait for comparison reviews.

I was hoping Pyreegue would take on EGLC, then it would have been a very simple decision.

Hard agree. PacSim RKSI coming in at 11GB certainly dissuaded me from buying.

AMD Ryzen 5800X3D; MSI RTX 3080 Ti ; 32GB Corsair 3200 MHz; ASUS VG35VQ 35" (3440 x 1440)
Fulcrum One yoke; Thrustmaster TCA Captain Pack Airbus edition; MFG Crosswind rudder pedals; miniCockpit FCU; CPFlight MCP 737; Logitech FIP x3; TrackIR

MSFS; Fenix A320; A2A PA-24; HPG H145; PMDG 737-600; AIG; RealTraffic; PSXTraffic; FSiPanel; REX AccuSeason Adv; FSDT GSX Pro; FS2Crew RAAS Pro; FS-ATC Chatter

Whoever does EGLC it is very close to the center of London and if they did it in too much detail it could easily become a stutterfest, especially for those who use the ORBX London and FSLTL addons, etc.

In this respect, I would suggest that Gary Summons' airports are generally better optimized than some of the ORBX stuff (not knocking ORBX though as a lot of their stuff is excellent).
