This right here is the name of the game. I think it is crazy that people are upset because the people who brought us the BEST stock G1000 units in any sim/game to date because the beta lacks some random obscure thing like hydraulic pump 4 off while holding the ident button and clicking their heels three times and saying their is no place like home doesn't cause *insert random thing it should do based upon their extensive knowledge of watching youtube videos*.

These planes are shaping up to be the BEST stock airliners ever included in a game and will allow us to do everything short of failures etc to make 99.999999999% of actual users flights be able to follow the checklists/flows and fly them correctly.

But hey...its trash because I can't hit the intercom button and call the flight attendant in for another coffee refill.

I've seen a lot of hyperbole and overly dramatic people here on Avsim, but you just went right into their hall of fame.

See, but it's that 0,0000000000000001% of "hardcore simmers" that are going to get upset because the plane doesn't do what they saw the "real thing" do on a video they watched on JustPlanes.😉

(Btw, nobody is denying that this beta still has issues that need to be tended to.)

What is hyperbolic and dramatic about truth?

Interesting concept of truth you have if you consider this the truth:

"people are upset ... because the beta lacks some random obscure thing like hydraulic pump 4 off while holding the ident button and clicking their heels three times and saying their is no place like home"
"will allow us to do everything short of failures"
"99.999999999% of actual users flights be able to follow the checklists/flows and fly them correctly."
"But hey...its trash because I can't hit the intercom button and call the flight attendant in for another coffee refill."

The truth is that people are - if at all - complaining about flight-breaking bugs (e.g. radio altimeter tells you "10" when you are already hitting the ground), which probably will be fixed eventually, and missing features like takeoff perf calculations, custom W&B, EB, VSD etc., which are probably not going to come.
The truth is also that 99.9999999999% of about 2 million users needing only this means not even ONE (1) MSFS user in the whole world is interested in things like takeoff perf calculations. Sure about that?

The only exaggeration I can see here is the number of digits used in the 99.999999999%. The last sentence in the post you quoted clearly was sarcasm. Lots of the hyperbole I see on here is by users who are dead serious.

I don't think anyone would argue that these two planes are free of some major bugs right now. But when Matt says they're aiming for better-than-CJ4 fidelity, we know WT are going to deliver fine aircraft that fly by the numbers and close to real-life checklists. And this level is good enough to make most people quite happy, even the experienced simmers here on AVSIM. Yes, it's nice to have more depth in the systems simulation, but I think we're getting to a point where study-level simmers can have a perfectly enjoyable flight in the 787 or 747 after AAU2 is released.

There's always the possibility that the modding community builds upon this new foundation to further improve the level of systems simulation, and for those who look for as-real-as-it-gets representations of the aircraft, 3PDs already have their products lining up - at least for the 747, I'm not sure right now about the 787.

I'm mostly excited about this giving P3Ds a lot less work to do in order to build their own 787s and 747s.

Just in case anyone outside the AAU_02 beta is wondering:

  • Both the 747 and 787 do import flight plans now directly from the MSFS Flight Planner into their Boeing FMCs. It isn't necessary to type in waypoints by hand. This is not a case of stating the obvious, because various study-level aircraft, such as those from PMDG, do not import MSFS-generated flight plans into the FMC. Nor did the Longitude when the first beta of AAU_01 was initially released. Now of course the Longitude (and other planes) do import MSFS-generated flight plans into their FMCs.
  • You can detach several cockpit panels and drag them to other monitors, where they will continue to update even when you switch to views outside the cockpit. This has not always been the case with all previous aircraft. I measured no drop in FPS at all when filling three side monitors with three different instrument panels on both the 747 and 787.
  • Overall, performance in the AAU_02 beta is as good or better than pre-beta.

That's not really an advantage, because the MSFS navdata - be it with Navigraph or not - is faulty. You'll find SIDs and STARs and transitions missing (you can see this in 737NGDrivers first video on the 787), which is bad especially on Vatsim. It would be better to have a separate navdata base like with other 3rd party planes.

Ok on my end (787) the elapsed timer doesn't start, I get no display numbers on the MCP for HDG & IAS. TCAS also shows it's not working on the ND display. Anyone else having this??

It's in general  a good idea to have the same nav data....
