Leaving AVSIM

Recommended Posts

And now dear friends, I have some news.

I'm absolutely SICK of AVSIM's ads.  I don't know if I'll ever be I'll be posting here again.

Reasons:

1. Since yesterday, on my iPhone whenever I go to this site I get a Google pop-up that COMPLETELY takes over my browser, there's no way to get out of it unless I shut down the browser.  This is intolerable.

2. The ads here can't be shut off, I even offered once to PAY to have them stop and I was rebuffed by either the owner here or an admin.

3. The ads here flash so rapidly that they induce a mild seizure in my elliptic brain which makes me physically ill.  Do you not care about people with disabilities?

4. There does not exist an ad blocker for the iPhone that actually works.

So goodbye, I'm sorry to leave but this has become out of control for me.

Best wishes.

Jack

I don't even bother with Avsim on iphone or ipad.  I use it on my Desktop with ad blocker.  This means I engage with the site much less than before but there is no option the ads are out of control on mobile.

There certainly is. I use a blocker called “1Blocker” from the App Store. I use an IPhone exclusivey on Avsim and I have never seen a single ad while browsing these forums (unless I turn the blocker off).

When you first visit Avsim on a device that hasn't stored cookies yet, you're offered the option to customize which ones you accept. I once consented immediately and experienced what the thread is about.

Unfortunately, it's unlikely you'll take the time to explore those (and there are many) on a small phone screen.

Clear your browser cookies, then visit the site again not forgetting to filter out the ones you don't like.

Jack,

I use ADblock Plus - available at the AppStore for free.  Works perfectly on iPad and phone.

Don’t see any adverts or prompts to upgrade.

Dont leave!

Jack, don't even talk about it!. 🖐️
You stay here and will continue to post your beautiful adventure photos. 👍
Understood?
It's an order! 👨‍✈️
DO NOT use smartphones or mobile phones to interact with the sites, always use PCs and PC browsers with Adblock added.
I've always used these tricks and I've never had problems navigating on Avsim. 😉

And I use AdBlock Pro (free from the App Store) on my iPhone and iPad.  No ads on any of my devices.

Jack, I too spend less time here but not because of advertising.  But when I do visit I always look for your posts in the Screenshot forum.  There are plenty of options to nuke the ads, please take the time to choose one you like.  And keep posting here!! 🍻

I guess I must be out of touch with the modern world. I don't do anything other than make phone calls from a phone, and I access all online stuff via a desktop PC. I'm sort of surprised by your message Jack because I didn't even know avsim had ads. Never seen one. OK, I have Adblock Plus on my browser, but I do get sites asking me to turn it off yet I've never seen this from Avsim. Don't know if that's because I'm an occasional donor anyway, but certainly never had this experience.

Agreed. It would be such a loss NOT to have you here, Jack.

Use a VPN like NordVPN or Mullvad.  They block ads and malware.

I use a browser called DuckDuckGo that's is really nice while on mobile.  Otherwise it's just Chrome with Adblock
