Low (but not too slow) aircraft recommendations

Featured Replies

Another one that comes to mind is my Kitfox. I usually fly my Freedom Fox version, but if that’s too slow there is another version that is quite a bit faster due to much more horsepower. I love the clear doors on them and they can take off and land in so many places, and with the high wing it’s out of the way so to speak.

Also I don’t really equate a jet with low and slow, but I love my Visionjet which has fantastic visibility and you can slow it down nicely to speeds not much faster than some prop planes, which allows you to use many airfields. In addition it has the ability to clip along if you want that too.

Believe it or not, the default Icon A4 is great for sightseeing. Its windshield is like an IMAX movie screen, and its super-simple controls mean you don't miss any scenery while trying to properly lean the engine out.

I chose the Tecnam P2006T because I can’t stand the bland looks of the traditional Cessna 100 Series. I haven’t touched a Cessna 100 series since FS98. I think they are the most boring bland planes that I never had any desire to fly in a sim. While the Tecnam P2006T is just as slow…they are something prettier to look at with cool twin engines.

Shocked & stunned to not see the Sting S4 mentioned. It's a beaut.

I am fond of using the sim for aerial tourism as it is good at mixing the intricacies of flying and enjoying the geography 😀

Low and slow, I fly the default helicopter Cabri at about 90 knots or the Milviz high-wing Pilatus Porter at 115 knots. I don’t fly her anymore but early in the game, I flew the also nice default Xcub a lot. These birds will let you appreciate the scenic wealth of MSFS, all the nooks and crannies of the landscape.

I don’t fly my Cessna 310 for this purpose as the two big engines on the low wings hide the view on the side.

Twice as fast warbirds like the Flyingiron Spit or Hellcat can seem weird for tourism but they are great in some configurations, for instance when you fly island to island in the Aegean, to get an overview flying high and then diving and turning tight around  (low wings!) to get you closer. I did recently a Spitfire flight of Odysseus two islands in Western Greece. Delightful.

I would also add the WB/JPLogistics C152 mod, but it's been taken down from Flightsim.to and I can't link to it. If you do find it, grab it.

Far from ideal but you can access the C152 mod from the project's discord

The JP mod was moved to the WBsim discord page.

If you like the 152,   be sure to check out the Rheims Rocket I posted above.

I suppose biplanes are just way too slow for what you want, but if you ever fancy flying very low and very, very slow, Ant's Tiger Moth is probably the closest the sim has right now to a study level biplane.
