Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 - Announce Trailer

Ok sometimes you really need to see things side by side to get the proper perspective. If we can expect that uplift throughout the world then I'm even more convinced that selling it as a new version is absolutely justified. The scenery far off in the background looks much better to. The mountains have a lot more definition to them. Thanks, @Shack95

If the scenery looks that good everywhere (and that's a BIG "if"), then I may not be able to stop my hand from grabbing the credit card.

Even 2020 it patchy, but for the most part, it's word not allowed good.

If the whole world looked like that I‘d be prepared to pay way more than $60. But I highly doubt that. These are mission locations after all. I‘m sure we‘ll see some sort of improvement, but I don‘t expect a miracle.

What gives me hope is the fact that you can see an uplift in quality way off in the distance. Remember they said they're leveraging the latest in machine learning tech. Time will tell but I'm choosing to be optimistic.

Unfortunately the new sim seems headed away from my FS interests as there is little in the trailer of interest but at least it may be a bit more pretty.  I guess we can always hope that P3D6 will eventuate with all the bells an whistles many are hoping for and provide an alternative - a long shot I know - but there is always hope.

The trailer is showing a tiny fraction of everything that makes the simulator and it was at an Xbox event. Did people expect MS to show action trailers from mainstream games and then suddenly start talking about computational fluid dynamics and the center of lift pressure?

Not everyone lives in a flat country. I live in a very mountainous one. I absolutely agree that no sim is perfect and all of them have pros and cons. But you were the one mentionning one being far more realistic. And til now you couldn’t explain why.

Mountainous is far easier (lived amongst quite a few "fourteeners" for a good bit).

And just because I don't choose to serve you a point by point justification on a silver platter doesn't mean "I can't explain it".

The difference is that I don't go around trashing sims with hyperbole - as you do.

Or maybe they were keeping up this image knowing full well (what we didn't) that a new game was coming, so that all might change now, none of us can say for sure either way.

They already said they're still releasing what they promised on the roadmap.

Good to see that in the trailer the water in the reservoir in the valley on the left is not creeping up the mountain anymore (or not that extremely). I hope that's the result of a fix.

Clouds look like they went back to tech alpha quality (which was the best by far but kept getting downgraded due to performance issues)

I think you didn't get the point about landmarks missing. Because if i summarize what you said, this would literally mean that landmarks aren't needed either in flat terrain, nor in mountainous one. Looks like some kind of weird justification.

The reason is simply because you don't know it yourself and just wanted to make that statement, without anything to back it up.

I hope so, sick of the sim being downgraded little by little every month.

I would personally have fun coding an ATC library for Asobo or MS (with help of course), but don't think they'd hire me for that role. I'd really push to invite a group of about 50 testers to help though, people like Ryanbatc and other knowledgeable folks. For the ATC, they are definitely going about it wrong or they have the wrong coders involved. I mean I'm not the greatest coder in the world or anything (very experienced though), but I am sure I could fix it, it's really not THAT hard. I struggled trying to code AI recognition of buildings and autogen to get a good result when I tried, but that is a LOT harder. Image recognition is a general PITA, so is automated color correction to try to get rid of side effects at the end (the post-post remastering I guess you could call it).

I think that would be a near impossibility given the aerial coverage, and I would expect only minor graphical differences overall comparing the same places, but if they fix the tile coloring and contrast balance, that might help quite a bit.
