100% It's almost like people have forgotten there was FS2004 then FSX. X-plane 10, then 11, then 12... It's only reasonable that a studio releases a new title after while. We've gotten plenty of free updates and content. I welcome the new version and look forward to handing them my credit card again.

Good reframing of information! On those good old days, the FS iterations were shorter: FS98, FS2000, FS2002, FS2004, FSX (2006). I think no one complained as much. Today XP and MSFS is in the 5 years average.

"Betrayal", really? This is getting a bit reactionary

A bit... ? We need a 'Throwing Toys Out Of a Pram Simulator' at this point, theres a huge market for it .. I'd buy it every 4 years.

So completely out of the loop here, but this is first I have heard about MSFS2024. I suppose it has been on the MS Forum?  So are there any details about what it is?   I mean, is it a new sim not connected to MSFS or is it DLC within the current Sim? My biggest concern is not what it is as much as if I have to pay for it. In which case I guess I may be stuck on an old version that eventually no longer gets updated? Lack of information is what drives the fear on here. Is this YT video just some ones interpretation of something or is it actually an MS product? Does anybody have any facts from a reliable source?

Cheers

No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.

Also note the extra bits of info from Phil Spencer that divulges more than the trailer:

Just boggles my mind that we all like to talk and post about our system specs and high-end video cards and monitors and controllers and airport addons and payware planes and all other manner of trinkets associated with the hobby in our forum signatures but as soon as the company that develops the software technology that it's all based on makes the slightest hint at a new version that will cost us some undetermined yet still much more reasonable amount of money, people are suddenly astonished and apparently penniless.

I share some concern also.  However I'm reserving judgement as to what 2024 will look like in regards to the type of flying I do.  Just because I don't have a big interest in these special missions, doesn't mean I won't ultimately enjoy improvements it brings.  Jury is out for me.  I'm hoping it ends up ok.  It's hard to imagine going back to p3d or to xplane.  That wouldn't feel right at this point.

if you like MSFS2020, you will like MSFS2024

Absolutely.  The sim cost approx $100 depending on version, right?  There is not a single person who cares enough about it to post here who hasn't spent 100 hours in it at this point.  $1 / hr... Man, what an unreasonable cost for educational entertainment.  😂

I guess those comments are aimed at me. My apologies for not wording that very well. It was for the sake of brevity. I wholeheartedly agree with you both that the cost of the sim is ludicrously cheap  considering the benefits returned. I guess my concern was more about what will and what will not, be usable from the (shall we say) "old" sim. This has happened many times before where some of us has spent thousands on hardware, computers, and add-ons only to find many of them incompatible or needing upgrade in the next version. I didn't want to explore that in my statement above because the question was that I really didn't know anything about this new product and it would of course be premature to raise this issue in detail and simply fearmongering yet again without any facts before us  But, since you called me out on it I guess I have to now reluctantly explain why it concerned me even though I have no facts to suggest this will be the case.  Again my apologies.

Cheers

No reason to apologize and actually my post wasn't aimed at you specifically - mine was maybe more just a pent-up response after reading some very outlandish and overblown reactions here and at the MSFS official site suggesting things like "breach of contract", "betrayal" and so on .  Yours is actually a point that I do get and is appreciated.

It will be a while until we see MSFS 2024... hopefully the wait will be bearable for everyone...

What did you expect from Microsoft?🤣

I was actually wondering when FSXII would be announced.

Intel Core i9-10900K at 5.2GHz, Corsair H115i PRO, ASUS MAXIMUS XII HERO Z490, G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 15-16-16-36, ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3090, SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2 2280 1TB x 3, Corsair HX Series HX1000 Watt PSU.

Are we supposed to be mad they were going to release a new version four years after MSFS?

And they've already said the MSFS roadmap will be completed AND that addons will transfer (for free) to MSFS24. So what's not to like?

I also agree with those who say the career stuff is not just Xbox fodder. I fly Citations for a living. We do not fly just to fly. Real-world aviation is mission based.
