I can barely get an entire meal at McDonald's for that price.

Hi Ryan, just a suggestion: if you want to live healthy, stay away from McDonalds 😅

$2 (£1.58) a month ? Fine by me if MS/Asobo wanted to run it that way. I wouldn't spend £1.58 a year on MuckDonalds.

The reason is simple: a subscription is a blank check to the developer, for you know what you get at the moment you subscribe, but have no idea what will come next, neither is there any commitment of any kind as to what will be achieved and when.

But it goes both ways: if a software is sold as as subscription, you can be sure it will be updated very often, precisely because if users see updates are not coming, they'll cancel. Instead, with a one-time purchase, if the software is being left rotting, they already got all your money. So no, it's not really a blank check, it's an incentive for developers to keep updating, to prevent cancellations.

This is particularly true if you opted for a monthly subscription that can be canceled at any time. I wouldn't do a paid in advance year-long or a multi-year subscription, unless I full trusted the developer, and the discount was significant.

We get a lot for our upfront costs. The World Updates alone would be a $5-10 DLC for a lot of games. Add in the weather and new features like the AAU updates that go far beyond bug fix support. I need to do more with the bush trips and discovery flights.

That said, I agree with most folks and the reluctance for sub models, and even paying for the WUs.

I own the game on Steam, but needing to use Steam Wallet to buy MP items is a hassle. I only buy from the MP stuff like the Asobo ATR I can't get via a 3rd party. Depending on the pricing for 2024, around then I might switch to GamePass.

I hate subscriptions. It starts an egg-timer effect on your mind, you almost feel compelled to use it as to not 'waste it', because you have that monthly charge that reminds you that the clock is ticking on your digital rental. It's a psychological thing. It also becomes a thing you have to worry about; oh no, maybe I don't have time to play next month, should I stop it to save the money? Some day I might not return, need to remember to stop it so it doesn't just charge every month. Then you stop the subscription and hey, maybe I just want a single quick flight, now you need to pay for another month to fly just once.

Noooo thank you. One time purchase, avoids all that, thank you.

MS offers both, subscription or buy it out right for PC. Not sure about Xbox, although they Do have to pay for playing any of their games online, me thinks? I used the Game Pass subscription to make sure my low end gaming PC would run it, before I bought the Premium version. Its a choice for PC users, not for Game Pass. Most of us have subscriptions, but we just call them bills, cell phone data plans, utilities, cable, streaming, etc... So IF they would just change the name to Bills, the world would be fine 🙂 Also, with some subscriptions you can try things before you buy, or decide from the monthly or yearly ( most with small discount ) price. But the bottom line is it is your choice to make, and no one else!

So go turn your internet, cell phone, etc... OFF right now. It's a bad world out there, companies trying to make money 🙂
I know, I know, it's a Bill not a Subscription, that you pay monthly, sounds like the same thing 🙂

In2tech above  - almost took the words out of my mouth.

How many - of all of the above - who don't like subscriptions - obtain their Internet?

That's such a terrible gotcha attempt. Just because you dislike something, you sometimes have to do it because it's the only means of getting it -- Doesn't mean you have some moral clause to never touch that form of payment.

Some people said thy never use Sub's, and for most that's not true. It's just a different name. What is the definition of a Subscription, is all I am saying?

Most of us are now paying a tidy sum of money each month just to watch the many cable apps on TV.  (A concept people scoffed at back in the the 1960's).

GamePass isn't a valid example for subscription. It's literally the Netflix of gaming. I can buy digital version of a movie from somewhere, or, assuming it's on Netflix, stream it and a billion other titles for my monthly fee. Gamepass for my sub I have access to a ton of other games. It's that spread of content that makes the sub worthwhile. GamePass also usually doesn't include expansions and DLC. It's usually just the base game.

For MSFS to be a true "sub" I would pay x, specifically for access to the one title. I would also expect a sub to include all the Premium content.  Even subscription content like World of Warcraft charge for expansions every couple of years.

One definition, also called a monthly bill for some:

"the action of making or agreeing to make an advance payment in order to receive or participate in something"

Still the consumers choice, in most cases. Most you need to be part of the world 🙂

There's already a subscription, but it's more than $2, and only covers the Standard version.

Count me in for the "I prefer one time purchase" team.
