ACES... Phil Taylor have a look.

This was noted in the FS11 wish list, really interesting. I know that it is way off in the distance time wise but I hope that we are heading in this direction. See you in Seattle. http://windwardmark.net/downloads.php?page=screenshotsWindward MarkWaltham, Mass.-based Windward Mark Interactive hopes to ride the trend in the integration of computer game-based technology into military graphic training simulators with new WindLight software that helps replicate natural light in all atmospheric conditions as photo-realistically as possible.By layering advanced graphic lighting conditions over existing hardware- or software-based image generators, the software package provides a night-and-day difference over traditional simulations at minimal additional cost.Using physically accurate lighting models, WindLight provides dramatically improved simulator rendering with its shader-based imaging technology.Windward Mark president Asi Lang said his team found that nobody was serving as a bridge between the video game industry, which is the apex of computer graphic simulation technology development, and the military simulation and training sector.

Good luck getting them to use OpenGL which is how all of that is based. With DX, you'd need a Cray Supercomputer to run it. Until they decide to use industry-standard API's such as OpenGL, it probably won't happen.

Sure does look nice! Maybe FS11 will have similar 3D clouds and effects.I didnt notice any cloud shadows though :( Must be very taxing on the CPU/GPU to do cloud shadows?

Has anyone played that arcade game Airline Pilot? It was made by sega and ran on 3 25" monitors, pretty good stuff. For those that have, yes the game wasn't perfect, but it did a good job of rendering the city that you flew around, and had a surprisingly good aircraft model for a 777. Could you imagine that game (which was around 1999, but looked like FSX) with this kind of scenery and lighting? As our computers become more powerful, maybe things like this will be possible.
