P3D 6 officially announced

Recommended Posts

The trailer seems to be very military-oriented. I wonder if the USAF etc asked for these changes.

And along with Iadbound, I was mistaken about FSEXPO.

I posted a thread on HiFiSimTech's P3D forum asking about HiFi's plans IRT the new models and engines.

I will also post one on ENVSHADE's forum.

LMs focus has always been military/commercial, so that's nothing new (P3D has been the core sim for the US military aviation training program, Pilot Traning Next). And the end credit indicates it's indeed .mil focused.

None of that is especially new, though. Hopefully the other enhancements are worthwhile and don't force consumer devs to update addons - because I fear they won't...

Looking at the trailer, I still think that the LM team “gets” serious simmers. Microsoft is very busy looking at the ground, but holy smokes do those clouds in P3D look nice. Lots of different types, weather, haze, atmospheric conditions. We are spending all of our time in the air after all.

I have to say, I am a little underwhelmed, I was hoping Lockheed Martin was going to blow my mind with something.

They've been saying all along they have to maintain backwards compatibility for all their govt/comm contracts, so it isn't really surprising.

The mind-blowing sim will be the new Unreal-based project.

All that said, yeah, I was hoping at least for lighting updates. It's possible the "atmospheric updates" could also improve the flight model, but that might not be compatible enough...

Everything looking exceedingly subpar but as said, can't expect much to maintain a compatible environment. The improved lighting system doesn't look particularly realistic or appealing.

Admission of wrong is the path of an open mind, so bravo!

More food for P3D thought ...

Did anyone really think Google wouldn't one up Bing?

An interesting video.
AIUI, the tool seems to somewhat limit what can be achieved due to the need to select a specific focal point, which then has diminishing LOD as you move further away from the said point.

Would have been good to see something like this in v6, rather than wait longer for a response to MS tech.

Based on the video, definitely more military mission focused and why not, that is the whole reason for LM to exist with this platform. Seems v6 will more directly compete with DCS than MSFS in the non-commercial market.
