The old cost+ pricing model doesn't work in MSFS, devs now have to factor in the prices of competitor products in the new pricing structure set for MSFS add-ons. Apparently, plenty of folks still fall for this. Edited June 26, 20232 yr by Ricardo41

Oh yeah, people are going to line up out the door for the most expensive addon plane for MSFS, I'm sure. Unfortunately companies are at liberty to charge what they feel is a fair price for their work whether you agree or not. I'm guessing this just isn't the plane for you.

I can sense by your multiple posts in defense of them and their practice, tells me your card had already been swiped the second this went up 😉 [MSI MPG X870E Carbon | 9800X3D (PBO +200Mhz / -20 Offset) | Corsair 64GB DDR5 (Custom Timings) | RTX 4090 Founders Edition (Undervolted) | WD SNX 850X 4TB + 4TB | Antec Flux Pro]

I can understand people liking them but my flying time is too short to make any use. I did pick up the 717 in a sale a while back so maybe that counts ? (oh and the TFDI 717 is also in the FlyInside stand alone sim of a few years back that I have a copy of but that's way too niche to matter) As for defending their practices, what needs defending ? They've put up a plane for pre-order, they aren't the first team to do that for MSFS (HPG and the H145 springs to mind) and they won't be the last. People get to choose if that works for them or not. See, the thing is: if I were to put together a dainty little limerick and sell it for $25, I'd find a least 10 buyers. Easy $$ Money does grow on trees!
June 26, 20232 yr Presale for h145 worked out great, dev Dave is the hardest working dev in fs, saw how the sausage was being made and was really impressive. (other presales were for dcs and both the ah64 and f15e are winners) Would I preorder md11? As others mentioned, the initial 717 release was problematic but they mostly sorted it out and had nice ‘real light’ lighting going so maybe. But not much incentive to get in now so leaning towards sitting back and see what happens later. looking forward to that 757, tho. June 26, 20232 yr An other thing that does not incite me to pre-order, is the fact that it's developed for both platform. Will the P3D version bring down the quality of the MSFS version, a bit like what happened with the MD-80.

It's not very different from Captain Sim advertising their products as currently discounted, so you buy it now so you won't have to pay more later. But the price stays at the discount, it never goes up. Go figure. Edited June 26, 20232 yr by Nixoq

It's a tired old sales tactic. Apparently, plenty of folks still fall for this. Sales manager here, I do a lot of GTM analysis and bids against competitors. You're 100% right about it being a tired old sales tactic. It's the same thing in my industry with burying rate hikes, penalties, fees, etc. into a contract and not telling the customer. From a GTM perspective, it's pure customer cancer - the first product price hike after your "pay me and get nothing" schemes will leave a lot of people with a bad taste in their mouth, doubly if the pricing model gets aggressively high or involves a lot of small transactions ($5.99 for this, $15.99 for that, etc.) You can get away with it once, but it will ruffle feathers and sour people who will not come back for future products. Think of it like airline seats. I paid $210 on a corporate discount rate, the person next to me paid $59 on a super sale, and the other guy paid $1199 because the fare jumped in price. None of us feel happy about that customer experience, but we understand that's how that product has to work. That's not how an addon works though, and if you bought in at $100 for the pre-sale, I bought in at $80 during the... erm... not pre-sale?, and my buddy buys in later and pays $80+$5+$16+$10 or whatever, we all basically paid the same price, but there will be a lot of hurt feelings depending on when you bought in.
