Patch Versions with Updates and such...

Recommended Posts

Forgive me.I've been reading nearly all the materials put forth on AVSIM, Phil's blog, and many other sources, and I have a pair of true/false statements to pose to those in the know. As I prepare to make way for Acceleration and/or SP2, I want to make sure I fully understand the roadmap for our installations.Put simply:True or False... Purchasers of Acceleration do NOT need to install SP2 to obtain all the latest updates and fixes. They will be on the same "patch level" upon installation as SP2 users. True or False... Acceleration (and SP2) are cumulative updates - SP1 does NOT need to be installed prior to either one, and the simulator will be brought up to current specs and fixes by installing either Acceleration or SP2 (pending above answer).I think I know the answer to the first one, but the second one is more grey for me.Thanks to all who have input!-Greg

Hi Greg:"True or False... Purchasers of Acceleration do NOT need to install SP2 to obtain all the latest updates and fixes. They will be on the same "patch level" upon installation as SP2 users. "TRUE. Acceleration includes SP2 as part of it's install. It also includes SP1, so if you are on FSX RTM, the install will install SP1 functionality plus upgrade you to SP2 + all the Acceleration "goodies" (new aircraft, new missions, etc.)If you are already on RTM + SP1, Acceleration will upgrade you to SP2 + all the Acceleration "goodies" (new aircraft, new missions, etc.). In other words, installing Acceleration updates FSX (of whatever version) to the latest code & functionality."True or False... Acceleration (and SP2) are cumulative updates - SP1 does NOT need to be installed prior to either one, and the simulator will be brought up to current specs and fixes by installing either Acceleration or SP2 (pending above answer)."PARTIALLY TRUE. Acceleration is cumulative. Install Acceleration, and you are done. However, The free SP2 download on the web is not cumulative. Users who download the free SP2 patch from the web will need to also download the free SP1 (which is already available on the web) and install SP1 before installing SP2. If you try and install the free SP2 download on a plain FSX RTM version, it will prompt you to install SP1 first.Hope this helps,- SkyDrift

This begs another question: Will Acceleration have a repair function on it like the RTM version?
