CYVR Vancouver..OMG....Heaven!

Most of my FS flying is in and around the Vancouver/Vancouver Island area. The area is even better with the recently releases FSX Ultimate Terrain for Canada which adds great detail to the coastline and islands.BlairCYOW

I've really enjoyed learning so much about the Vancouver area. Now I'd love to see some Photorealistic scenery developed for this "slice of Heaven". I'd like to see it as all of you natives have described it. Now, that would be great VFR flying!

Stan-Thru this forum today I discovered I had missed Fs earth tile:http://www.fspassengers.com/forum/read.php?f=9&i=4634&t=4634It allows you to generate photo real scenery for any area with little know how other than editing the config file-it even places the compiled scenery in your add on scenery folder-very slick!http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpgForum Moderatorhttp://geofageofa.spaces.live.com/

Ummmm, Vancouver (or Seattle) didn't even make the list below... I live in Vancouver, and rain is infinitely more desireable than snow, tonadoes, hurricanes or drought. The World record point rainfall values that are given below have been collated by the World Meteorological Organization and are published in the Guide to Hydrological Practises(1994), 5th edition, WMO No. 168. Is there a chart for "most consistently annoying nonstop drizzle"?Probably no point if there were, Vancouver would always be at the top. As I sit here playing FSX and browsing forums I look past my monitor at my beautiful view of.... rain. Downtown Van is in there somewhere... I think. ;)

Come one, now, all this complaining about the rain and the fog is pointless! Everybody knows that when you reduce the draw distance and level of detail, you get a big boost in frame rates! The drive into town this morning was absolutely butter smooth and stutter free, and without the sun effect or the god rays, I didn't need to turn on bloom, which just boosted the frame rate even more. Out East in Newfoundland, they have a wonderful term for this type of weather: RDF. Rain Drizzle Fog. So, we're not the only ones to get it. As a matter of fact, when in St. John's, be sure to visit the RDF Lounge on George Street, it's retro urban-funk in the middle of Celtic bar country. Although when the weather is RDF, some Celtic melodies, a good scoff 'n' scuff, and a stein of QV goes a long way to making the grey weather blues go away...If you like picturesque bush flying in FSX, St. John's can be a good base of operations, too. There's not as many bush operators in Newfoundland as there are in BC (I think), but I am told there is a fair amount for a pilot to do in a Maule or a Beaver. Certainly, you can visit CYYT, and travel from there to Labrador, Quebec, Nova Scotia, PEI, or even to St. Pierre in France (bring your passport). Views are beautiful of the historical St. John's Harbour overlooked by the famous Signal Hill, where Marconi successfully sent his first transatlantic wireless signal. Zip over to historic Quidi Vidi (great beer, tiny brewery) and go spotting for rogue icebergs. Fly east to Cape Speare, the easternmost point of land in North America. Wonder in awe at the simple beauty of Petit Bay, or travel out to Bay Bulls, a town that can trace its bloody, war-torn history back to the 1600's. Watch out that you don't fly too close to the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, or you may disturb the thousands upon thousands of sea birds that call this place home. Wing your way west, and pass over Bell Island in picturesque Conception Bay. Everywhere you point your camera, your pictures will look like a postcard, and every restaurant you stop in will have the friendliest staff and the best fish & chips you've ever tasted -- until you try the next one (unless you get to Velma's, back in St. Johns. That one is the best, no argument will persuade me otherwise!). Bell Island has what the locals claim to be the only land-based gun to fire in anger in North America during WWII: they were trying to hit a German U-Boat that sank several ore tenders off the rocky coast of the island. You can see the wrecks to this day. Also, if you fly near the southern shore, be sure to triple-check your instruments, as there has been freakish and unexplainable explosive ball lightning events that hit Bell Island -- sightings so strange that they reportedly attracted the attention of secret investigators from both the US and USSR military. Certainly, this is a place to avoid is you love your IFR instruments, but it's one of the best places to gaze out of the cockpit window and marvel at the wonders of nature, or failing that, be charmed by the virtual landscape in FSX.Jeff ShylukSenior Staff Reviewer, Avsim

Does the Vancouver+ add on scenery have custom runway texture or default runway texture? Manny

Hi Manny, I know I answered this elsewhere, but for folks who followed this thread, Vancouver+ uses mostly default runway textures. There are some custom textures on the apron at CYPK.Jon
