Hi all,

 

I’m running P3D with my GTX 1080, and I’m planning to update.

Running a 4K 65” tv as a monitor. Good FPS but sometimes they drop. I think it’s too much screen for a 1080.  

Could you help me with a nice price/quality replace.

what is the make and model of the TV?

What is the average FPS your currently getting?

I’m using Samsung series 7. Usually I have block the fps at 30. Sometimes I go town to 20 or 10, specially at nigh with dynamic lighting.

Have you tried the TV's built in frame interpolation? I use it on my Samsung UN55NU6900. It is basically the same as frame generation on a Nvidia 4000 series GPU except the TV does the Frame Generation. Based on your comment I'd shoot for 23hz in Nvidia Control Panel which, if it works for you, will give you 46fps on screen.

So what you do is set your FPS in P3D to 30fps (or perhaps unlimited will work better) Vsync on. Set NCP to 23hz at whatever resolution you use. In the TV setting via the remote control go to Picture> Expert Setting> Auto Motion Plus Setting.  Set the Judder Reduction Slider to 10 and turn on LED Clear Motion.

With those setting the TV will take the 23 fps that it gets from your GPU and interpolate an additional 23fps for 46fps on screen.

You should try it before you fork out the doe on a new card. P3D is fairly CPU bound so if you are hitting 100% on the Main CPU thread then a better GPU won't help much but the technique above will double your FPS!😁

The caveat is that you have to rein in your panning speed. I don't know how to do that in P3D

now it looks much more fluid. 
but the problem comes with colors. Now I’ve been more than one hour trying to manage the colors: brightness, gamma…some of them are a bit “vibrating”.

im trying to get the perfect color with NCP and with TV imagen settings…

big challenge . Do you know how to get them perfect?

Well, I'm glad you can see the fluidity and that is a direct result of doubling the FPS. So what ever the FPS counter reading is what you are actually seeing is double that.

So if you did it right your GPU is locked at 23fps because of Vsync and setting NCP to 23hz but you are seeing 46fps on screen. That's why it so fluid. No frame counter will tell you that, you just have to take my word for it.😁 Your next move is that you could go for 29fps at 29hz which will give you 58fps on screen. I use this for GA and 23hz for Airline flight.

So as far as the colours are concerned I prefer the colours I see using the TV Frame interpolation over the colours without it. I think to my eye they are more realistic. They are warmer looking. Without the frame interpolation colours look cold and unnatural to me. They look more like a video game. So the colours are not a problem for me.

You could try switching the modes and see it that helps? Personally I use "Movie" and it works for me. Beyond that I cant help you any further with this.

 

One other thing. If you use the Picture mode of the TV to change the appearance of colours. i.e normal, dynamic, Movie etc. be aware to change you refresh rate in NCP from 23hz to 60hz and back again after changing the picture mode to unsure you see the correct colours. A quirk but I'd recommend you do it during your search for the best picture.
