PMDG B737 update 3.0.70 online

No... unfortunately they said in their latest news post that it will come in a later fix unfortunately with no actual eta.  I wish that would mean a vastly improved engine spool model even compared to what we had before but I doubt it,  Ive been asking for that for years back in fsx and p3d and they always give reasons why its not possible for them.

Uh that's still not fixed with todays update? I thought that was the sole purpose of the update, at leats that's what RSR said IIRC.

UPDATE:  I was incorrect here, I wouldn't call the engine spool up fixed because it was never right to begin with, but I can confirm it is indeed back to the way it was in version .65

Its possibly because the realization finally sunk in that they have no short term intention of supporting the P3D platform any longer. Years of verbal feature updates and bug fixes "coming soon" influenced quite alot of buying decisions to the benifit of that company. Unfortunately the same thing is happening here again but far as I can see people are becoming a little less tolerent to it.

What's happening again though? There was never a commitment or promise to update to every upcoming P3D version. I get some aren't very happy with PMDG, but that doesn't mean it makes sense to say PMDG are wrong for not updating to v6 in the near future and even lying about the work required, but, say, iFly saying the exact same things is fine. The devs are in the same boat here.

The sentiment towards PMDG is the reason part of the community would probably find fault in PMDG using the default radar while iniBuilds gets a "pass", although the devs are in the same boat here too.

This is incorrect. I've already tested it today, and Evangelis from PMDG confirmed that .65 was too slow, .69 was too fast, and supposedly .70 is correct.

Did you notice by any chance if there was EGT rollback? When stabilized at 40% N1, after increasing the EGT will go down a bit again.

Features and bugs fixes getting pushed back to to the next update, only to be pushed back to the next update, only too get pushed back the point where those updates will never be released. P3D legacy versions are case in point. It just happened again with this latest update. You have been around long enough to know the pattern.

I have always been mostly happy with the PMDG offerings.  I've had the 737 since the very beginning.  I didn't buy the 777 because I don't do long haul and the 747 had some anomalies in both the FS9 and FSX version.  This release for MSFS2020 seemed to be a good bird when I first bought it 4 months ago.  Now it's not enjoyable.  The LNAV is a mess, the ground handling is screwy, and they have some other weird behaviors with the FDE.  And how can every developer release an EFB but they can't??  I know the A2A took a long time to come out, but if a bare bones combustion engine airplane can have an EFB, then it's pretty ridiculous not to in the PMDG.  I realize no one needs and EFB to fly; however, the performance calculations present in other add-ons is something we don't have.  They can't even give us performance charts now.  I feel like A2A stepped up their game big-time by adding new features and making the re-release Comanche more exciting.  PMDG has not added much of anything new and what is there isn't even working right.

I feel like the door is wide open for another developer to take on the market with a Boeing product now.  PMDG could really use a bit of competition in the sector. I really hope IFLY can bring their MAX out before PMDG for MSFS and its a solid product with no messing around waiting for EFB's or LNAV updates, just a solid product out of the box. I think its the kick up the behind PMDG really needs.

I sure hope IFLY beats them to the MAX also. I’ve gotten tired of waiting on PMDG. It would be nice change of pace to use another vendors 737 product.

Yeah did a flight today in the 800.  Ground handling is really bad right now. Like really bad. I hope they focus back on that at some point

What I don't understand is why PMDG has so much trouble getting an EFB for the 737, yet A2A came out with the best EFB I have seen so far, and the Fenix has a good one as well. Maybe PMDG should hire some consultants from these other companies.

FBW has a lovely EFB in its freeware A320NX.  Plus, you can use your keyboard to input data in the FMC like you used to be able to do in P3D PMDG 737s, but PMDG didn't implement this in MSFS (for an alleged technical reason I read).

Can you possibly revert back to a prior version?  Seems like they ought to offer this if their updates can be this troubled.

No, its still not "correct" but it is as good as pmdg is able to get it right now due to their reliance on default msfs code for engine behavior.  So basically its like it was in .65, but with a few slight improvements.   When the thrust levers are advanced to 40% the real cfm56 should spool very slow until about 33% n1, then "lock" to 40% n1 with some overshoot possible and an egt spike.   The way it works now is they will spool fairly quickly to about 35%, then slow down and gradually meet the 40% target, so they do technically spool to 40% in the 7 seconds that they should, its just that the behavior is backwards.  It is good that they have added the egt spike and some overshoot though.

Here is a thread I started back in the p3d days with some good video showing correct turbine engine spool behavior.  https://forum.pmdg.com/forum/main-forum/pmdg-737-ngxu-for-prepar3d-v4/33240-engine-spool-dynamics

Right now the biggest problem with the msfs turbine model according to pmdg is that the faster you advance the thrust levers the faster the engines spool up, so if you go from idle to toga on the pmdg 737 the engines will spool up in a few seconds, even with version .70,  This would not happen with any real turbofan engine.  Somehow fenix and fly by wire have been able to code out this bug with the msfs turbine model, but pmdg is unable at this time according to their development team.  This is also a problem with just about every other jet addon for msfs besides the two I listed, its just that most people dont know the correct behavior so people dont complain about it.

This thread was a riveting read. I updated just so everything I have in my hangar is up to speed but I won't be flying it, I'm enjoying the A32NX too much right now. The updates on the updates on testing for the EFB are tedious. They've really left the community down. To balance out my negativity I should say for the casual simmer who doesn't care about spooling engines reaching N1 in the right amount of seconds, the 738 is a brilliant aircraft to fly and they did a good job overall.
